Education Lasts During Our Whole Lives

Education Lasts During Our Whole Lives, or OWL, is a program designed to help children and youth explore their sexuality in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Through engaging curriculum, experiential learning, and outreach activities, OWL promotes awareness of and respect for human sexuality. By developing skills and attitudes that support healthy sexuality, children and youth can make informed decisions about their relationships.

Human sexuality curriculum

The Our Whole Lives (OWL) curriculum is a comprehensive sexuality education program that helps students make informed and responsible sexual choices. This curriculum was developed by Pamela Wilson, a noted sexuality educator. It is a course designed to help adolescents and adults learn the fundamentals of sexuality and healthy relationships.

Our Whole Lives aims to create a culture of acceptance and justice in relation to sexuality. In addition to teaching the basics, it develops interpersonal skills.

The curriculum is offered annually, and focuses on building interpersonal skills, promoting sexual health, and fostering positive relationships. Students also learn about the spiritual aspects of sexuality. The curriculum was created in conjunction with the Sexuality Information Council of the United States.

Originally, the curriculum was based on the About Your Sexuality (AYS) curriculum. However, when the sexuality education task force convened in 1992, it decided that the AYS curriculum should be replaced. Instead of a single curriculum, it is divided into three components: an introductory curriculum for kindergarten and first grade, a middle school curriculum, and a high school curriculum.

OWL was primarily designed for use in religious settings. However, there are variants of the curriculum, allowing other faith traditions to adapt supplemental material.

Our Whole Lives is used in many different educational environments. For instance, it is being piloted in Rwanda and in secular settings in Canada and the United States.

Some of the topics covered in the curriculum include sexuality and HIV/AIDS, physical and emotional health, and healthy sexuality. Topics on sexual abuse and date rape are also important to the curriculum.

One of the key strengths of the Our Whole Lives curriculum is its focus on a holistic view of sexuality. Each part of the curriculum provides developmentally appropriate information, while helping students clarify their values. These lessons are complemented by interactive in-person workshops.

Safety policies and practices

Putting the right safety policies and practices in place can make all the difference in your workplace. Whether you are a small business or a large corporation, everyone should take responsibility for the health of their employees.

Safety policies and practices should include details on how to handle injuries and how to reduce hazards. In addition, you may want to hold a regular safety meeting to keep the safety message top of mind.

Creating a robust safety program will not only help improve the quality of your work, but it will also reduce your risk of workplace injury. To that end, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration released recommendations on steps you can take to protect your employees.

Besides creating a written safety policy, you'll want to have a system in place for reporting hazardous conditions. You may also want to encourage employee participation in your safety program.

A focused safety plan can help lower your workers' compensation claims. It can also reduce accidents, provide a safer working environment, and keep your employees and visitors healthy.

One of the best ways to do this is to conduct a risk assessment. This will let you know what types of hazards you are dealing with. For instance, if you have heavy machinery, you'll want to invest in equipment to prevent accidents.

Using a system to measure and track the performance of your safety initiatives will ensure that you are making progress toward your goals. And, you'll see a direct correlation between your safety program and the quality of your employees' work.

Taking the time to implement the right safety measures can save you time and money in the long run.

Outreach activities for coordinators, OWL committees, and RE Staff

One of the most important tasks of an outreach coordinator is to find and organize volunteers. This may sound daunting at first but it is a matter of knowing how to go about it. Recruiting people from within your own community is a good place to start.

It is also wise to recruit someone who is familiar with the local culture and demographics. In other words, don't go into a neighborhood blind. The more you know about your community, the better off you will be.

For a start, here are the five most important steps in launching a successful community outreach campaign. First, identify the objectives. Second, make sure you have a strategy to accomplish them. Third, recruit the appropriate staff. Finally, ensure that your plans are well funded. Lastly, remember to check in on the progress from time to time.

A community outreach plan should contain the usual suspects, but there are additional stakeholders to consider. These include government agencies, local business entities, religious institutions, and non-profit organizations. Developing an efficient strategy for interacting with these groups is key to your success. Likewise, if you can't work directly with them, it's worth your while to establish relationships with them.

To get the most out of your community outreach efforts, be sure to build a robust team. While you're at it, don't forget to train your staff on the ins and outs of their jobs. You'll be rewarded in spades.

Using the right metrics, you'll be able to measure the success of your community outreach programs. As the old saying goes, "You can't fix what you can't see." Getting a handle on the basics will ensure you don't overlook any of the aforementioned measures.

Facilitator training

Lasting Connection(r) Facilitator Training provides participants with the skills to help couples grow in love and harmony. In addition to providing presentation and speaking skills, it teaches participants about heart to heart communication, marketing strategies and marketing tools, and ways to engage an audience.

The training is conducted on an experiential learning model. Participants learn how to develop rapport and promote sexual health and safety, including the rights of youth. They also learn to create a safe and supportive classroom environment for all members of the group.

Facilitators are required to follow the Safe Church policy of their congregation and are instructed to report any suspected abuse. Additionally, all facilitators are required to complete additional training on teaching children with special needs.

Facilitator training is an intensive experience. It is recommended that participants arrive well-rested, as they will be taking in a lot of information in a short period of time.

To facilitate the program, facilitators must be comfortable with discussing the integration of sexuality and spirituality. They are also expected to build relationships of respect with participants and their families.

Participants must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Prior to the training, they must also take a temperature. Upon completion, participants are certified as facilitators of Lasting Connection(r) programs and receive a certificate and seal.

As a facilitator, you will have the opportunity to share your experiences with the community. Through an email network, you can discuss good ideas, share resources, and learn from other facilitators.

The facilitators of Our Whole Lives are required to attend comprehensive training before they can be certified to lead the program. This training is conducted by the RE Council of the UUA and affirmed by the REC.
