            Patient Service Innovation (PSI) is all about finding new ways to provide the patients with the best treatment and facilities. According to this, the patient should be treated according to the disease that the patients had. Also, the facilities provided to the patient should be according to their need. The main purpose of the NHS is to promote the innovations across the healthcare systems. It is the digital tool which is empowering and benefitting the patients. There are many NHS innovation programs, but all of these share some key points. These points are about finishing the health gap, finishing the care and quality gap and finishing the funding and efficiency gap. The innovation is always needed with the changing time. As the time passed by, many new diseases have been discovered completely different for the present, so there is also the need to innovate the method to treat or cure the diseases.

            These innovations shouldn’t be only the form of medicines but also in the form of the procedure or way of treatment of the patient. It is to know about the certain requirements of the patients and also to know what kind of special facilities to be provided to the patients suffering from some illness (Bing & Epstein, 2013). The innovations in digital technologies are playing an important role in helping the patients to manage their health, at their convenience, by empowering themselves. An important thing for NHS to continue meeting the patients’ changing needs, there should be a collective effort to deal with this variance in quality and the possible outcomes. Usually, the quality gaps are filled by bringing the innovation in ways or methods of organizing care.

              The innovation chosen by me in this article is, promoting healthy eating in among female patient in the medium secure ward. According to my study if this innovation is implemented we will be able to easily address the identified clinical practice gap. The reason for choosing this is that usually female patients in medium secure ward usually live awful life. The patients sometimes have already been going through some severe mental stress. They have no happiness in life and sometimes they can be dangerous to other people around them.

It is a natural fact that a healthy mind needs a healthy body. Sometimes, a disease can't be treated with medicine but a change in lifestyle and adaption of some good habits can help in a cure. The patients suffering from mental illness need attention more than they need of medicines. As healthy minds need a healthy body, and a healthy body can only be maintained by having a proper diet and proper meal.

            The national health services know as NHS is a national health care system, funded by the public of England, for England. It was initially funded by the money collected through general taxation. Initially, it was managed by the health department. It provides health care to the people of England who are legally registered there. Most of its services are free of cost. Some of its services including emergency treatment, treatment of infectious diseases are provided without any cost. Even the visitor can also get benefit from these free services mentioned above. In 1948 the labor government founded this free health care, getting the idea for the basic principles of national health services.

            This means that anyone who is living in the England whether he is a resident of England or not, he can get free of cost treatment. They can access the full of both of critical and noncritical medical care. But they have to for some services specified by National Health Services, like dental care, eye tests, aspects of long-term care and prescriptions. They have to pay these above-mentioned services but these costs much less than the services provided by the private health sector providers. Also many are free for deserving and vulnerable patients.  There are many policy drivers and key developments which played and also playing important role in the improvements of the facilities providing to the patients under national health services. NHS constitution is one of those key factors. This constitution allows the public to complain about any service provided by the National Health Service. It does not just only allow to complaint but also guides in a well-mannered way that how to effectively complain about the services. According to the national health services the NHS belongs to the public of England. It is for the deserving public of England managed by their tax money. The reason for the National Health Services’ presence is to improve the health of people. It is for to keep us mentally as well as physically well by supporting us.

            The NHS is based on some basic, common and simple sets of principles that work in such a way to bind the communities and people together. To bind those people and communities that it serves. The constitution of national health services establish the values and principles if NHS in England. It describes the rights to which the public, patients, and staff are entitled. It also pledges the goals that the NHS wants to achieve. The public feedback is very important whether you are running a business or an organization. It also plays an important role in running the NHS and to make improvements in it. The public feedback not only identifies the errors in the services but also gives a public review of the positive steps taken by the organization. It helps us to know about the demands of the public and to know what steps should be taken to improve the facilities provided to the public and patients. The constitution is renewed after 10 years. The amendments made in the constitution were made according to the feedback and reviews of public, staff and patients.

                It is also accompanied by handbook to the NHS constitution. The handbook is to be renewed after every 3 years. But the changing in the handbook is restricted to re-commitment and to regularly review. There seven key principles of the NHS constitution. First of these is that it will provide services available to everyone. Access to services of NHS is purely based on the needs based on clinical need. It aspires to the best standards of professionalism. The 4th one is that the patient is the center of all of the amendments. The 5th one is that it works beyond the organizational boundaries. The 6th one is about the commitment of providing the best worth to the money of taxpayers'. The 7th one is that the NHS is answerable to public patients and communities that it serves. The other admirable thing about the National Health services is its five years forward view.

                The National health services have improved itself over the past fifteen years in such a dramatic way that now a day cardiac and cancer outcomes are much better. Patients’ satisfaction has been increased due to the decrease in the time to wait. Now there is a pretty board consensus on about the future with better possibilities. The forward view gives a clear image of the future plans and the goals that are set by the National Health Services that to be achieved to provide better services to the public. The first argument made in deciding the future plans is about deciding the future of the millions of children and also the sustainability of the National Health Services. The prosperity of Britain depends upon the radical upgrading in the public health and prevention. The other thing is that the patient will get better control of their own care when people do need health services. It also includes the point of shared budgets that combine social and health care.

            The National Health Services will also take some big steps to eliminate the barriers to care is provided. It will remove the barriers between hospitals and family doctors, between mental and physical health and also between social care and health. The National Health Services outcomes frameworks indicators inspect the outcomes the NHS provides, by providing the high-level inspection and accountability. The secretary of states, after short intervals of time, observes the progress of National Health Services England by using the national outcomes goals set by the framework.

There will be a strategy that should be made to apply that idea. The strategy will be based on the effectiveness of this innovation.

                The first step in applying this idea is to aware the patients about the advantages of healthy eating. It will be difficult to the start as the patients, especially in medium secured ward, are already too much depressed and they can also be dangerous to the people around them. So first is to make them aware. Then the other thing is to manage for the resources because healthy eating will be eventually a costly thing. It is observed that many patients having their treatment under the services provided by the National Health Services are vulnerable or poor because they are having their treatment at almost free of cost under National Health Services it will be impossible for them to have the meal according to their requirements. The NHS only provides help in the form of the waiver of the fee which is payable in terms of money for the treatment of some severe diseases but the NHS will not pay anything to patients for having the perfect diet. If a patient is having a perfect diet which means she is having a healthy meal according to her need, it will eventually boost up the metabolism of the patient and the healthy meal will help in making the body fit to work and to make the immune system strong (Barlow, 2016).

In applying this idea the first step is to spread the awareness about the advantages of having healthy meals. By having the healthy meals t will not just make your body fit but it will also make the immune system stronger. It will make the body strong enough to fight against the disease. For the application of an idea, some key points have to be considered critically especially in clinical practice. The first thing to be considered is to understand the basic principles for good governance. It will make the doctors or staff able to construct robust and more effective departments. In almost health organization the task culture plays an important role in which the team working and expert power are more respected. The other thing is that during governing the department there should be a holistic approach that should be applied. The final thing is to monitor the effectiveness of the idea or innovation. The main reason for all of these key points is to monitor the working of the innovation. It is the main learning objective. During the practical innovation, some ethical issues should also be considered.

                The main ethical issue is to study that if the main purpose of National Health Services is still working to facilitate the patients or not, whether there is a need of rethinking about the constitution of the National Health Services or it is working in its best way. In applying the innovation some major stets steps should be taken in the following way. These steps will be considered as the strategic plan. The first step is to study the related studies about that type of innovation. It should be considered strongly that whether this innovation will help in the treatment or not. It will be the severe case if the innovation will cause more damage or increase the mental disorder in the patients instead of curing it. The next thing is to discuss the idea or innovation that is “promoting healthy eating among female patient on medium secure ward” with the seniors or higher authorities to have their opinion and suggestions. Then the step of practical implementation came into effect. In this, the first thing is to select some participants for the implication of the innovation. The next thing to be done is to aware the patients, about the innovation.

The healthy eating will also improve the brain efficiency and the relative way of thinking about the good things. If the there thinking capability is increased it will also boost up the confidence level and will help the patients to develop a positive thinking. The next thing is to calculate the data about the working 9of the idea. The first thing that will be considered is the physical and mental strength of the patients. In this, we will study both the positive and negative effect of the idea on the patients. We will also consider the states of the patients that on which type or age of patient the healthy eating affected more, whether the effect was positive or negative. The next to be considered is the working cost of the idea. In this, we will relate the cost that was being spent on the patients before the healthy eating habit and after the habit of the healthy eating. The next thing that will be studied is the amount of effect on the patients. In this we will take a note of that effectively it worked on the patients.We will also study that whether the recovery rate was more before the implication of the idea or now the recovery rate has improved. We will also take a feedback from the patients for better knowing the effect of the idea. After all of this, we will have a lot of data to study the working or efficiency of the innovation.

            The chosen innovation is "promoting healthy eating among female patient on the medium secured ward”.  The main purpose of any innovation is to provide the people with better facilities. Considering the term innovation in the field of health, its main objective is to provide the patients with the best treatment and facilities. These facilities will not only be in the form of the medicines but will also consider the way of treatment. The main thing to consider about the innovation is the working of that specific innovation in the related field. The thing is that whether the patients will be able o get the advantage of the innovation or not. Well in my innovation, it will surely work in such a way that will help in the improving the treatment way of patients. The habit of healthy eating will improve their living and the habits. Also, the healthy eating will work in positive to make the body fit and stronger. The main advantage of this innovation is its relation to the domains of the National Outcomes Framework. This innovation is connected to the all the domains of the NHS framework, but the main domains that are connected to this innovation are the ensuring that the patient will have a positive experience of care during the treatment, and the other is the taking care of patients and treating them in a safe environment. The other main domain directly connected is about the prevention of people from dying at an early age. The main purpose of all of this is to do the process mapping that is to judge the working of the idea and to know whether the objectives are achievable or not.

        There are many models available for the strategic planning of a projector for a task. The strategy map gives us all the information about the developments in the project and the working of the project. It provides us with a detailed view of the strategic plan and will guide in achieving the required goals. It gives every worker, who is working on the project, a clear view of goals that are to be achieved. It also helps in understanding the elements of the strategic plan that need more work to be done. The main reason for the selection of a strategy map model is its ability to cover every single part of the project. It just doesn’t relate the parts of the project but also explains the interlining of each and every part of the project. It works in such a way that it helps to achieve the objective of the project in the calculated or given time span for the project. (Wenderoth, 2009)

  Major components of the Change Management Strategy

            The main component of the project is the objectives that have to be obtained after the completion of the project. this includes finding the way to complete the task in a most effective way that will require less cost and time and will result in better quality. The other main component of the project is policy and procedures that will be used to control that project. It includes a plan which will describe that the process is feasible to work on. This will also include a brief introduction of health and safety policy. The other main component of the project is based on the schedules that are made to set the time frame to complete the project. This explains the time phases in which the different steps will be done. A Gantt chart will also be included in it that will help in outlining the key milestones of the innovation. The 4th major component included the preparation of the resource plan. The resource plan is all about assigning the responsibilities to different team members which will work ineffective way to complete the project. The last component is the budgeting and the management of the cost. The cost management is about the making of a plan to use all the available resources in a more economical and effective way. This also includes the planning about the expenditures relative to time for each work step. (Lester, 2013)

            The selected project of innovation “Promoting Healthy Eating among female patient on medium secure ward” will be applied to the patients who are admitted in female section medium secured ward.  The medium secured ward is for the patients who are suffering from mental disorder and these patients can also be dangerous to the people living around. The reason for selecting this place is that the patients in the medium secured ward need more attention and facilities than patients admitted to the general ward. They just do not the medicines for their treatment but they also need a proper care and some important facilities that will help in the process of treatment. It is a natural phenomenon that a healthy mind needs a healthy body. So, those with the mental disorder should have proper diet according to their body and mind need. It might be possible that those patients suffering from mental disorder will feel some improvement in health not just in physical but also in mental health. The proper diet will not only make their body fit and strong but also will increase the capability of the immune system to fight with other diseases related to the mental disorder. (Stringer, 2016)

If an employee can do his job in the individual role then it doesn't mean that he will perform well in the form of a team. The teamwork is very necessary to perform a group project. In teamwork, the working of a single member significantly affects the team efficiency. There are both negative and positive sides of working in a group. Sometimes a member can work faster than other members, in this way the efficiency of that single employee will decrease but if a member is slower than other members, and then, in this case, the efficiency of that slow employee will definitely increase. The other members will help him in completing his task. If all the group members will work as a team and will help each other in performing the individual and group tasks, then a positive work environment will be developed. A positive work environment and culture is very necessary for a successful project. During the working on a project, the teamwork and work culture are dependent on each other. The positive work culture always helps in increasing the productivity, increasing the morale of employee and also the ability to only keep the workers those have the required skills. Some things are very much required for the positive work culture.

            The open communication between the employees, without any hurdle, is an important thing in positive work culture. The developments of the positive work culture and to keep the employees motivated are related to each other. In our research, the motivation is required from both the patients and the staff especially the nurses and the doctors to apply the innovation. To keep the patients motivated towards healthy eating there will be need of spreading the awareness about it and to remind them about the advantages of the healthy eating again and again. There should be consultants, especially psychologists, who will clear the idea of healthy eating to the patients. They will aware them about the advantages of healthy eating and will answer to all of their queries and will discuss with them that how important for them is to keep their body fit and strong to live a long and stable life. The actual concept of “a healthy mind needs a healthy body” has to be cleared by them. Some of the main motivation methods are the help of some consultants, especially psychologists. Some regular sessions will also be helpful in which the lectures will be given that how to the selection of the meal should be done and how to check that which food is beneficial for us and which is not.

Time Management applied to implement a change in the strategy of an organization

            The time management is the most crucial part of the project. The main reason for this is that the time is always limited. So, due to the limited time, the project should be managed in such a way that all the steps and parts should be completed in their time frame. The time management helps us in completing the task by using all the available the resources in the most effective way. It also helps in interlinking the related steps with each other to work in the more effective way and to deal with time shortage. The time required for this innovation is 3 months. In these three months, from the planning to the evaluating the results will be done. (Croft, 1996)

                The steps included in this project and their interlinking is represented in the Gantt chart in Appendix. In the first step, all the planning will be done that how will we work on this project. In the next step, we will select the criteria for the selection of the patients that will take part in the project as the participant. In parallel, the participants will be classified according to their age group. Then the next step is to create the awareness among the patients about the healthy eating and then the step will be to evaluate the results and to make a conclusion. And to look for the solutions if there are some problems found in conclusion. (Zeller, 2012)

Evaluation of National Health Services

            Within the National Health Services, an approach named as clinical governance is used to maintain and improve the quality of the care that is provided to the patient. This also gives a framework through which the National Health Services is accountable for the continuous improvement in quality in the services and to maintain the standard that meets the excellence in the healthcare. The other thing related to the working of the National Health Services is clinical excellence. The clinical excellence is subjected to the quality of diagnosis, humanism, professionalism, interpersonal and communication skills and the skillful conciliation of the healthcare system. The innovation “Promoting Healthy Eating among female patient on medium secure ward” will help in quality assurance, clinical excellence, and clinical governance. It will play an important in the improvement of the above-mentioned terms. By adopting this innovation, we will be able to increase the quality of the treatment. This will help in such a way that it improves the types of treatment, will open doors to new ways to treatment. In this innovation, the ways are not just developed by providing the patients with high-quality medicines but in this, we will provide them with better treatment and facilities. (Posavac, 2015)

                There are certain methods to evaluate the Patient Service innovation. To conduct Pre and post clinical audits is one of these. In this, we do the audits before and after the implementation of some new technology or innovation. After the audits being done, we compare the data from both audits. After the comparison, we evaluate the working of the innovation, whether it has improved the way of treatment or not.

            The other thing that can be done for the evaluation of the Patient Service Innovation is the satisfaction surveys. In this, we perform a survey in which we prepare a questionnaire that will be distributed to the public. It is a modern form of collecting feedback and reviews from the public. It works in a much better way. In this, the people read the questionnaire and answers the questions asked in it. The questions in the questionnaire can be the form of the short questions in which answers are required or the people sometimes asked to select the correct option about a question. They have to mention whether they are satisfied with the services or not, and what type of improvements or steps they want to be taken by the National Health Services. The satisfaction surveys work on the basis of the Likert scale, which is a scale that is used for the representation of the people’s attitude towards a topic. After performing all of the above-discussed methods of evaluation or any single of these we will be able to compare the performance and patients’ health before and after the innovation. In these methods, we will also discuss the working conditions in which the best results can be obtained. 

The Role of the Nurse in Service improvement and innovation

            Improvements and innovations are too much necessary for the development of any organization. There are certain positions or roles that play their roles for the betterment of the organization. In hospitals, the nurses are unswervingly concerned in almost all of the aspects of the hospital, whether it is in terms of quality, in terms of care of patient or medication and bedside management. They also provide assistance to the surgeons during the surgeries and some other major operations. They also perform data collection or reporting and many other more relevant tasks. The learning is the key process of any type of job. Talking as a nurse, during the implementation of the innovation it provided me many opportunities to learn and enhance my technical and soft skills. (Institute of Medicine; Committee on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future of Nursing; at the Institute of Medicine, 2011)

            It increased my confidence level because dealing with patients, especially with the mental disorder, is not an easy task. It is very difficult to talk to them and to know about their problems. It is also not an easy task to make them understand what I’m trying to say. The main thing is that they don’t want to listen to others. They have their own thinking, and according to them whether there thinking is right or wrong, they just want to do what they think.

By implementing the innovation it provided me the opportunity to learn how to deal with that kind of patients. It also helped me in learning the new ways that how to communicate with others in a more effective way. It is also very important to provide the patients with the excellent healthcare if you are working in a versatile and dynamic healthcare environment. There are a number of factors that affect the healthcare environment. The motivation of the staff at the workplace has to be made sure. It is also very useful to promote positive interaction between the people working together in the same workplace. It is the thing that heals faster and works better than medicines.

            It is concluded that the innovation “Promoting Healthy Eating among female patient on the medium secure ward” will work in such a way that it not only just improve the method of the treatment but also will open doors to the new ways that can be adapted to work in a much better way. The treatment only with medicines is not for the treatment of the patients of medium secured ward, that’s why the proposed innovation worked in a much better way and the treatment was more successful.

            The patients in the medium secured ward need more attention than they need the medicines. By implementing our innovation, the more attention was provided to the patients and they were provided with all the required facilities. The innovation is always needed with the changing time. The approach of our innovation is to change the habits and living ways of the patient. Our innovation will improve their way of living and will also have a good effect on their physical as well as mental state
