Introduction:
This is about
engineering ethics as here we discuss the tragedy that is happened in the
Kansas water park. The Kansas owner hired a boy in 2016 which has no technical
skills or else engineering skills according to the new lawsuit. Verruckt is
designed by that boy with lacked the expertise to properly design, the water
slide that killed Caleb Schwab on August 7, 2016. Now we want to learn that
whether it's only the fault of that engineer or there is something behind that
incident.
Engineering Ethics:
In the United States, there is the following rule and regulation
implemented on making the giant water slide. On design, manufacture, testing,
operation, maintenance, inspection, assurance of quality as well as many more
the committee establishes the standards. To state as well as local governmental
codes, the requirement, as well as safety inspection amusements parks, are
subjected. By insurance companies must pass harsh inspection. In
specific states, if regulations necessity to be improved, such action
encourages by the IAAPA as well as the basis of any regulations recommend expending
the specific International ride safety standards ASTM. As we discussed the
Kansas new regulations. The new law imposed after the death of lawmaker's son,
on the Verruckt water slide in Kansas City. It executes further inspection as
well as the requirement of licenses on amusement rides. It also considers that
those who operate a trip without the permit consider him a criminal drawback.
The engineers play the
leading role. As they must design the proper waterslide as well as they have to
test the rides properly. But as a study about the whole case, although
engineers are responsible for the loss of this innocent soul, an owner is to be
blamed more than the engineer for hiring non-expertise for such critical
project like a Verruckt water slide. Yes, one who listens to this incident
surely he surprised that how owner did this kind of blunder.
For the security of
Verruckt, there are the following safety rules. Local government does not
require by the Kansas law for the safety of rider to evaluate the amusement
park, if they wish they allow them too, with the state law it doesn't conflict.
The incident gives the reason to governments to impose regulation for the
safety of amusement visitor of parks in the future, particularly that no
federal rules administrate that industry gave the fact. For the public, Kansas
presently severely contains its mistake as an overseer. To hire certified
inspectors, this is the very major thing that constructs the field report with
the operators.
The all key players are
discussed here. The co-owner of the Schlitterbahn waterparks & Resorts was
the co-owner. Jeff Henry gave the idea of Verruckt ride the major problem is
that he doesn't focus on the design. The designer of the Verruckt is John
Schooley. He was not capable enough of designing that project. Instead of using
the mathematical & physics he handled the trial as well as error
techniques. The consultant of the Verruckt was John Hunsucker. In the activity
law of enforcement, operation director of the water part was Tyler Austin Miles
(CBS, 2017).
As the Jeff Henry is the
co-owner as well as a maker of the Verruckt he didn't follow the procedure for
safety it means that he breaks the first rule for the protection of people. The
second rule is to cut by the Henry that he shows lack of expertise that allows
engineers according to their competence to provide services. From NSPE john
Schooley also break the fundamental rule as he didn’t follow the design
procedure accurately. In
the investigation procedure Tyler Austin Miles interfere which means that it
violates the code to avoid from deceptive acts which ask engineers. From NSPE
John Hunsucker should provide the consultancy accurately but it seems like he
also didn’t follow the basic rules.
As the other U.S. states impose the rule
and regulation, the Kansas state administration is also responsible for this
incident as they did not impose any control. After the death of the 10-year-old
baby the administration authority thinks about the more laws. The accident
might do not happen if they already imposed the rules for the amusement parks (KORANDA, 2017).
The primary lesson that has been learned
through this incident is that by qualified engineers the ride should be
constructed. And this is the duty of engineer to follow all the engineering
ethics for the welfare of the people as well as their safety. Rides within the
parks could be adequately inspected as the administration implemented the
regulations. Because of this is incident it shows that by a qualified engineers
inspection should be done.
In the future, such type of incident
could be controlled by giving the proper training to the engineers as well as
also the implementation of the regulation is very important (Willets, 2018).
Conclusion:
As concluded the whole report, that the
implementation of the regulation is critical. A more dangerous incident could
happen in the future if the administration of the amusement park didn’t take
any further notice about the safety as well as welfare of the people. Make sure
that you hired the qualified engineers as well as who well-known about the
engineering ethics.
