The braking system of vehicles is
often a subject under extensive legislative requirements and legislative
frameworks. The braking system requires secondary and safe service for the
failure of the system. The design and performance standards increase the service
braking performance and characteristics of automotive brakes are complex. The
performance of brakes is interrelated with the friction pairs (Howacarworks. com, 2018). The brake actuation
is based on the braking system, brake performance, inertia dynamometer, and the
temperature. The basic process of braking depends on the efficiency and
functionality of the lever and pedal. The friction generated when the contact
of material is developed in the wheel to slow and pressure that was applied.
The present work is based on the analysis of the braking system and to analyze
the material used in the development of brake materials (Mechanicalbooster. com, 2018).
Vehicle specification of Light Vehicle
Brake materials of Light Vehicle
The braking system is composed of
different components such as brake bands, brake shoes, brake blocks, brake
lining, and brake pads. In the vehicles, different components are joined
together to work effectively under the general guideline. The materials used to
control the speed and to stop the vehicle is interlinked with the number of
factors (Jang, Wang, & Chung, 2013). The materials
resist wearing effects that occur due to galling and ablation process. The
braking system generates heats and temperature of the material in this process
changes due to higher heat capacity and thermal properties in the conductivity (Jang, Wang, & Chung, 2013).
Components of braking materials of Light Vehicle
The typical braking system in
vehicles is composed of many components and subsystems such as brake pedal,
master cylinder, flexible hose, and wheel cylinder. All the parts are under
potential risk for the functionality and manufacturing of variables in the
designs. The main components of the wheel cylinder are cup seal, cylinder body,
cup ex panders, screw and dust boots (Jang, Wang, & Chung, 2013)
.
Actual vs manufacturer specified the measurement of Light Vehicle
The braking system under the
higher pressure faces issues of functionality. When the braking system is
exposed to environment, dust, and moisture the capabilities of the system
decreases. The maintenance of the braking system is essentially required to be
continued. Rough and textured materials are used to increase the friction and
efficiency of friction (Mechanical booster. com, 2018). In the manufactured
braking system, the components are under higher pressure and low friction for
the materials such as steel, cast iron, ceramics, and brake shoe caliper. The
qualities of the system improve due to amalgamations, friction resistance,
fiber formation, and other properties. The brake materials are often attached
to the metal bases and increase constant functionality (Jang, Wang, & Chung, 2013).
Conclusion on Light Vehicle
The fundamentals of the effective
and efficient braking system are discussed in the present work. The purpose of
the present work was to ensure the technical specification for the maintenance
of braking equipment. The basic requirement for the higher performance of the
braking system is based on the stability of components. The potential
components are discussed under the comprehensive performance framework. The
specified functioning of all the components is provided by the company to
improve the braking system. The present work analyzed that the modified braking
system under new technology is according to the world known standards and it
can be improved by taking initiatives.
Assessment task 2 observation
Introduction of Light
Vehicle
The slotted and drilled brake
rotors improve the efficiency of brakes even in a wet climate and in the areas
where frequent rain is under consideration. The process of changing and
modifying the front and rear brakes require skills and experience to avoid any
kind of discrepancy in the outcomes (Good-guys. com, 2017). The purpose of
present work is to deal with the modification of rear and front brakes of a
special type of vehicle Holden Commodore. The change in brake pads with slotted
and drilled rotors will enable the user to have long distance traveled in the
day. The method used to modify the front and rear brakes are slotted and
drilled rotors (Brakeperformance. com, 2019; Frictionmaster. com,
2018).

Modification of front and rear brakes of Light Vehicle
In the slotted and drilled
rotors, the initial bite is provided by effective, smooth and responsive pedal
feel. The cross drilled rotors are also considered to be installed on the
parked cars. The slotted and drilled brake rotors are composed of ceramic pads and
the advantages are provided by the holes drilled in both components for cooling
process and to sweep the gas and dust from the components (Haynes. com, 2018; Howacarworks. com, 2018).
Change in brake pads of Light Vehicle
The slotted and drilled rotors
increase the braking performance and at the same time reduce the brake fade.
Both the rotors and the pads used in the brake system will have to wear out
that will reduce a lot of stress during the braking process (Jang, Wang, & Chung, 2013).
OHS requirements of Light
Vehicle
OHS requirements include
occupational health and safety laws for the employees in the workplace. The
laws are also designed to consult the management and risk associated with the
workers and provide them the safe environment of work (Jang, Wang, & Chung, 2013). In the slotted and
drilled rotors, the performance of the braking system improves and the
probability of accidents due to high speed reduces. In such a way the braking
system is according to the requirement of customers as well as WHS / OHS (Jang, Wang, & Chung, 2013).
Labor time and customer time of
Light Vehicle
The process of replacement
requires significant time and energies. The average standard cost of
replacement of slotted and drilled rotors is $ 406 and $ 559. The labor cost is
estimated at $ 158. And the price of
parts is about $ 248 (Mechanical booster. com, 2018).
Conclusion of Light Vehicle
The present work deals with
methods used to improve the performance of slotted and drilled rotors and how
it can be replaced with an ordinary system to improve the performance. The
analysis suggests that labor cost of replacement is lower and the process
improves the efficiency of the brake system in the vehicles. The represent
report have significant real world applications and methods are approved by WHS
and OHS.

Dismantle and assembly of the starter motor of Light Vehicle
Introduction of Light Vehicle
The WP 220 starter motor can be
described as a pre-designed starter motor that is used to provide the initial
starting torque for the highly compact as well as the light package of the high-speed
starter motor. The system develops due to the reduction in the gear units. The
starter motor system in the engine is associated with the pinion that runs to
prevent the damage of armature and assembly of the starter motor provides an
excessive speed of rotation (Jang, Wang, & Chung, 2013). In case, the off
switch of the starter motor designs drives damage and prevention of the
armature. The WP 220 starter motor rides on the sealed ball bearing and bush
that develops dynamic balance. The purpose of present work is to deal with
dismantling and assembly of the WP 220 starter motor (Howacarworks. com, 2018).

Assembly of the starter motor of
Light Vehicle
The process of assembling the
starter motor is the reverse process of the dismantling. The process includes
retracing of steps in sequence and it should be completed under the
precautions. The initial step is to add lubricants and grease at four places of
the engines and these components are drive shaft splines, drive pinion OD, the
level of the starter motor, and gear support inside (Mechanical booster. com, 2018). The special type of
grease recommended for this process is (OKS Berulub KRYO TEX EP2). The
tightening process is the final step after retracting all the steps of
dismantling the starter motor. The tightening process ensures the complete
fastening and tightening of the screws and bolts (Jang, Wang, & Chung, 2013). In the recommended
process special consideration are required for the specific torque values,

After applying the lubricants and
oil to the starter motor components the next step is sealing of the starter
motor (Jang, Wang, & Chung, 2013). In the process, the
proper sealing of the starter motor is required to be considered by using some
specified sealants as listed below,
Anabond thread locker 112 stud
grade
Anabond AR 01 silicon seal
Anabond 871
In the assembling process of the
starter motor, different components are inspected and lubricated by using
specified steps. The steps for assembling of starter motor are listed below,
Insertion of the springs and
brushes in the respective holders and then hold the tool in a specified
direction.
Use the thrust washers in the
assembling process and for the armature shafts (Brakeperformance. com, 2019).
Sliding of armature shaft into
the cap bearing is next process after clearing the commutator.
Insertion of the thrust washers
on the motor PTO shaft and installation of the washers.
Slip the pinion for the clutch
gears on the shaft of the starter motor and use a small amount of the gear
lubricants and then cover all the gears and gasket (Haynes. com, 2018).
Insertion of the mounted
terminals on the starter and then housing the terminals on at the same time (Jang, Wang, & Chung, 2013).
Conclusion of Light Vehicle
The purpose of the present work
was to investigate the process of assembling and dismantling of the WP 220
starter motors. The process of pinion rotation and the prevention of the
pull-in coils from current flow are also discussed. All the steps for assembly
and dismantle of components are mentioned in the present work. The report can
be useful in dismantling of the starter motor to remove the corrosion with dry
and wet sand paper. The report can be useful for the insulation process and to
wipe issues in the starter motor.
