Overall, the group work went well in so many
ways, but still I was able to identify few issues as well. One of the issues
was organisation of the group. I strongly believe that group could have been organised better than that. The
group leader was not having enough leadership skills to organised group and its
relevant activities. It is a fact that when group leader is strong and organised,
and have skills to lead a group, then success is the most likely result to
happen. On the other hand, if group leader does not have good enough skills and
ability to lead a group, then group members quickly lose their interest in the
group. This is what happened to me as I was not happy and satisfied from the
group leader, so my interest level quickly went down. Sometimes, even I did not
attend the group meetings, because I did not like the leadership style of our
group leader. He was very authoritative in approach, and also really believed
in self praise. His voice tone was not appropriate to be a leader.
The above mentioned details clearly reveal the
fact that we needed a change in leadership for our group; otherwise things
would not have been achieved as expected. Thankfully, other group members also
realized the fact, so we changed our group leader to achieve better results
more quickly and efficiently. We selected a new leader, whose behavior,
attitude as well as skills were far better to the previous leader. The new
leader was very charming in his style and his voice tone was very gentle with
every group member. Moreover, he was very kind to each group member, whenever
we turned up to him for anything. His supportive nature was liked by all group
members. The best part of his leadership was that he effectively organised our
group. The things looked more organised and in order to continue with group
activities. The group work became more charming and interesting for each group
member including me. Now, I participated more with intense focus and attention
to everything. I was happy and satisfied to see a leader, who helped us to grow
well as a group, and helped our group to do better group work in all aspects. It
shows that how leadership can turn around things in a little time period.
Your
Contribution to the Group?
It is a fact that a group activity can only
succeed, when all group members give their valuable input. The combined efforts
of all group members allow a group to handle its overall activities in a way
that they not only achieve success, but meet any given deadlines as well. I
understood this fact very well, so I made sure that I contribute to my group as
much as I can. The group members may be able to reflect better on my
contribution that what they think about this, but I would like to describe few
contributions which I made to the group. I took the responsibility of report
writing for the group. Whatever written tasks were there, I handled most of
them for my group. I must say that it was not easy to handle this report
writing task, but I did make sure that I complete it with great quality. The
other major contribution made by me was to handle group meeting timings and
informing each group member about the upcoming meeting. So, whenever it was
decided that we needed a meeting, I informed all group members about it.
I would also like to mention here that I really
enjoyed my group work. I was committed from day one that I would make my viable
contributions to the group. I offered my services to the group in all aspects. I
knew that it won’t be easy to do so along with study routine, but my commitment
allowed me to give my full efforts. I strongly believe that if group members do
not take the ownership and if they don’t initiate good gestures, then real
purpose of a group cannot be achieved at all. So, I really made sure that I
contribute to my group in whatever capacity I can. I showed up with a strong
and thoughtful mind to give my feedback as well as inputs for the group, and
came up with so many useful suggestions. My contributions to the group were
well appreciated by group leader as well as group members.
Personal
Reflection
I have achieved so much since I am here in UK. I
not only gained a place in the university, but I also achieved so many other
things as well. It is a fact that staying away from your home is never an easy
thing as you miss a lot of things. Moreover, it takes a lot out of you to adjust
in a new place and develop a new routine. But thankfully, I was able to do so
in very short time. I must mention here that I was able to do so because of my
friends, which I made here. I have always been a friendly person, who likes to
make friends and socialize with others as much as possible. I never shy away
talking to anyone, and I always open for any help as well as discussion. My
positive attitude has allowed me to make new friends, and mix well with people
here in UK.
I have always been a person, who has a persistent
behavior to do things. I really believe in being punctual as well as
persistent. I believe in making firm decisions, and once decision is taken,
then I really put my all efforts to complete it accordingly. That’s why I have
been able to do well in so many ways here in UK. I have a tolerant and flexible
personality, which allows me to adjust well with people and situations. I am a
good on completing my individual tasks, and at the same time I am also a good
team player. I also liked the courses and looking forward for next term for
more insightful experiences.
