Internet gaming and
gambling are emerging as a popular activity among students and adolescents. Internet
gambling is becoming a rapidly expanding industry and the explosive growth of
the online gaming and internet gambling is associated with the increase in a
number of students involved in these activities (Canale, Griffiths, Vieno, Siciliano, & Molinaro, 2016). The introduction of
improved and new technology has revolutionized the modes of gaming and
gambling. A wide range of research work is carried out in the previous years to
measure the mythological shortcoming, significant factors that induce impact of
students, development, and maintenance of structural characteristics of gaming
and gambling (Petry & Gonzalez-Ibanez, 2015).
According to some
previous researches, about 23% of the college students are involved in gambling
on a weekly basis while 3% and 14% are involved in the development of gambling
problem (Canale, Griffiths, Vieno, Siciliano, & Molinaro, 2016). The internet gaming
and gambling are considered as a top listed dangerous category of gambling that
is due to accessibility, availability for 24 hours, and anonymity. The
increasing rate of the student participation in such sort of activities varies
with the rate of population (Wong & So, 2014).
According to a general
report about 23% to 37% of college students prefers to use computer and internet.
The gambling and online gaming possess significant impact on the risk of
students and remote medium. The primary objective of the present work is to measure
the impact of gaming problems on youth and online gambling. The research will
monitor the reasons for increased gambling problems (Wong & So, 2014).
Statement
of thesis of The role of gambling/online gaming in light of a student
The investigation about
internet gambling and online gaming in the students determines the delinquency
along with the substance that is used for the correlation of gambling severity
and the trend of online gambling. The delinquency induces substantial impact
for the gambling severity. The interventions are required to be considered for
the investigation of specific gambling motivations and the correlation of
uniqueness for the internet gamblers.
The specific
investigations are related to the promotion of participation and remote
gambling. The broader perspective is required in the present work regarding the
involvement of students in gambling and how they interact with such activities.
Along with the other factors, the special consideration of the problem is to
identify the social relationship of gamblers and online gamers, contextual
factors such as structural and situational characteristics (Petry & Gonzalez-Ibanez, 2015).
Findings of The role of gambling/online gaming in
light of a student
The involvement of
students in online gaming and gambling results in a negative effect on the
learning skills. The problem rate is five times more than other issues in the
students and adolescents (Canale, Griffiths, Vieno, Siciliano, & Molinaro, 2016). The increasing rate
of gambling and internet gaming is becoming a problem for non-birth parents,
families with a higher financial status, involving in remote gambling. The
contextual element is internet gambling issues (Canale, Griffiths, Vieno, Siciliano, & Molinaro, 2016).
The majority of the
students indulged in the internet gambling addiction have easy access to the internet,
electronic devices, social network, and online money transfer. The previous
report demonstrated the 82.4% students have frequent access to the internet
while on the other hand 17.6% students are involved in offline gambling (Canale, Griffiths, Vieno, Siciliano, & Molinaro,
2016).
The study quantifies the extent
of student involvement in online gaming and gambling. The socio-demographic
characteristics, gambling problems, and impulsive traits are the main causes of
gambling (Petry & Gonzalez-Ibanez, 2015). The students as
online gamblers sometimes are not able to recognize the negative effects and
consequences of gambling and such undetected issues result in a negative impact
on learning skills. The increasing rate of online gaming reduces the skills of
students to work efficiently in the studies (Canale, Griffiths, Vieno, Siciliano, & Molinaro, 2016).
The increase in the rate
of online gambling and gaming is due to the flexibility of games and at the
same, the other influencing factor is an attractive advertisement of gambling. The
peer encouragement and association of family members with the gambling on
regular basis provides an easy platform for students to get indulged in such
activities.
The social gambler and
students were lured towards the games to kill the time and relieve from
boredom. Male students are more attracted to internet gambling as compared to
females. The instant gratification, the hope of getting money fast, and thrill
are the predominant causes. The students that manage the financial requirements
and those living on a relatively tighter budget are addicted to gambling (Canale, Griffiths, Vieno, Siciliano, & Molinaro,
2016).
Many of the rules and regulations about gambling are required to be designed
again and the support groups are the alternative solution to reduce the
increasing rate of gambling in the students (Petry & Gonzalez-Ibanez, 2015).
The rules and regulations
of institutions, as well as the state provided by the government, should be
strict. The restrictions are required to be placed on the advertisement of
gambling. The proper investment is required by the government for prevention,
education, and research especially related to the addition of online games and
gambling in students. The online rehabilitation centers facilities the students
to overcome the addiction to online gaming and gambling (Petry & Gonzalez-Ibanez, 2015).
Conclusion
on The role of gambling/online gaming in light of a student
Online gambling in the
students is increasing due to more participation and easy online learning
processes. There are some possible ways to reduce the risk of gambling in
students. The initiatives by government and institutes are required to reduce
student involvement in such activities.
