Looking
at the style adopted by De la Vega, it can be said that his style is more
identical as an alienated follower. In the reading, it has been studies that alienated
follower is the one, who is not only independent, but also has the ability to
remain as a critical thinker. De la Vega has good experience to show his
expertise at the job, but being a critical thinker, it is his responsibility to
review independently that what others are doing in the organizations, and what
is the level of his engagement. It has been said that alienated follower is the
one, whom engagement level in the organization remains passive. The issue is
that alienated follower does look at issues and have a sense of finding
solutions for those problems, but they don’t actively participate in doing so,
as they are passive ones in the organization. This is what the case with De la
Vega that he has experience, capability to do well in the organization, but
still staying back, and not becoming an effective follower.
It is important for De la Vega to
understand that when a leadership role is due on their part, they need to be
more active and effective. His strategy to stay back and do not get along with Bussard
is not a good one in this given situation as it is confusing the workers, who
don’t know that whom they should follow, Bussard or De la Vega. It
seems that lack of motivation is holding De la Vega back. He needs some
motivation to increase his engagement level in the company, and take part in
making viable decisions to find appropriate solutions. It is advised that De la
Vega should improve his relationship with Bussard by increasing his motivation
level to perform his positive role in the company. It is important that he
meets with Bussard to define his role and finish all the confusions around. De
la Vega needs to explore his motivational needs and then act upon quickly. His
better relationship with Bussard will be great for the company and to do so, he
must become an effective follower and increase his engagement level.
