Category: Electrical Engineering Paper Type: Report Writing Reference: APA Words: 1550

            For the increasing popularity of the smart home, various companies are able to advance a necessary technology that brings affordable prices of smart home products to the market. Every day, people are investing in products related to smart homes. Many of the families are making their home smarter rather than using automatic coffee maker, the thermostats, and the entire security system that is a lot more convenient.

Now, converting a regular home to a smart home has some advantages and disadvantages.

Calculations of Converting the house from regular installation to Smart home

            Find the economical as well as technical benefits of the reactive power compensations that are employed at substation levels for power loss reduction, voltage regulations, and the increment in the utilization of equipment. The recommended installation is the 1300MVAR for capacitors banks at the MV sides of HV substations to maintain voltage levels.

        The impact of installation of a capacitor bank at a MV Bus Bar in the HV substation of Kuwait for the performance of the distributions networks is carried out. Now in the distribution networks, the operation parameters power factor, voltage, reactive power, and active power are concerned.

        The installation of the capacitor bank in the Kuwait at the main switch board is shown in the below Figure 2. The auditing of energy is the UMP library for building after the capacitor bank installation is done within 1 week (Abas & et.al, 2008).

The Capacitor bank KVAR is installed in the main switch for board correction values. The energy audit data for the existing systems is to calculate the value of the capacitors bank per phase whereas for the o7 power factor, the maximum demand is 27.86Watt per phase the apparent power of 36.3747KVA.  The apparent power will be calculated using the below formula;

Advantages of Converting the house from regular installation to Smart home

  There are various advantages for converting the house from regular installation to smart home and the value of saving.

Add the convenience in our daily life

Customization

Security

Ease of Use

Save Environment & Money

Save Energy

Increase the Property Value

Easier to Lock & Unlock

            When we convert the regular installation of home into a smart home, it adds conveniences in our daily life because all the products are programmed according to our specific needs. In addition, the programmed products being able to control your home as well, no matter how it is beneficial for this. Now there are various smart products in the market that are available; you do not need to buy all of them. The thermostats as well as the security systems are good products to start your home smarter. (Regencyhomesomaha.com, 2015)

            In a smart home, security systems allows you to view your home in better way no matter where you are. The security systems means that, installing the motion detectors, cameras installed, and locks will immediately notify you if anything is out of the ordinary. The change of the unexpected temperature is notified by many of the systems that are altered if there are any possible fire systems.

        For every house owner, the energy saver is the primary concerns. So many electric gadgets as well as convenient appliances increase the amount of the energy consumption day by day. There is no waste of the energy with smart home systems. After the usage of devices, machines as well as appliances cloud be managed and turned off immediately. The lightening and controlling of house is a lot easier where the waste of the lightening is the maximum amount of the energy that could be saved by the home systems. The great benefits of the smart home is that it will increase the property value of your home. (Helal & et.al, 2005)

Disadvantages of Converting the house from regular installation to Smart home

There are various disadvantages for the conversion of the house from regular installation to smart home and the value of saving.

Slight Learning Curve

Cost

Reliability

Dependency on internet

Dependency  on professionals

            The biggest disadvantage for the conversion of house from regular installation to smart home and the value of saving is the Cost. There are different companies that are more expensive because all these companies offer the Smart home systems. Only few of the peoples can afford this system. If someone wants the Smart home system, it would be able to save the Good amounts.

            Dependency on the internet is also a disadvantage for the smart home because the essentials needs of smart home systems are all about the internet. Someone might not take the control of smart home without strong as well as good internet connections. There is not any other methods that you access as the control to Smart Home systems if there is no internet connection.

            The dependency of the professionals is also a disadvantage of converting the regular home installation into the Smart Home because if there is any problem in the smart home, you just can call a handyman to repair or manage by the dissuasion of the professionalism. Where is the best to install the capacitor bank for best solution in the residential house or in the substation on the bus bar?

            For the best solution, the capacitor bank is install in the substations on the bus bar .Because capacitors are used for manufacturing or industrial user to reduce the penalty on an electricity bill to have the small power factor. If the capacitor bank is, add in our residential houses, it might be slightly reduce the transmission losses for the supplier of electricity and the power consumption is not decrease through adding the capacitors.

Install Capacitors bank in Substations on Bus bar

The capacitors bank is install where the load is stable and continuous, then the global compensation can be applied;

            The capacitor bank is connected to a bus bar on the LV distribution board of the installations and remains same in the duration of the normal load. The advantages for this systems is that it reduces the penalties of tariff for a great consumption of the kVAR.The demand of the apparent power in KVA is reduces, for the standing charges

Conclusion on Converting the house from regular installation to Smart home

Capacitor can be applied on the downstream of the electrical systems for the metering point that have a same effect for the upstream power factor.  Installation of the capacitor banks improved by the voltage level for the medium voltage bus at high voltage substations that also lead the sales at these points. The LV capacitor cost is less than an HV cost of the capacitor. The purpose of the research is to increase the energy efficiency along with reducing the losses of electricity energy through improving the power factor of the main supply in Kuwait building. After the analysis and the data collected at the library, the total power consumption is approximately 19%. Form the analysis, the capacitor bank return investment is found about teh0.64 years that is supposed to be good achievements.
