As the owner of the Kristen’s
cookie company I will provide cookies to the hostel students late at night.
Whenever any order came then it will take only few minutes to compete the order
because of the business there are only two ovens to complete the order within
few minutes. The rush hours for the orders are 9 to 12. At that time many
orders for the cookies came and these are very much difficult to complete the
orders at time. So the owner has to analyze the rush orders in detail and then analyze
the regular customers of these cookies and their style of order and then the
owner has to fill their order before time for the regular customers. When more
than ten orders are noted and then for this the owner has to plan how to
complete these orders on time for the rush hours. The owner has to arrange the
common cookies before the order was placed for the required customers (Tim Roncevich, 2009).
Question 2:
How many orders can you fill in a night, assuming you are
open four hours each night?
Answer
The order can fill in a night
that depends upon the working hours of the cook who baked cookies and filled
the required orders of the customers. The orders are depend upon the category
of the order means that if all the orders are the ceramal cookies so in four
hours only 20 cookies orders are completed because these cookies need a lot of
time. And for the chocolate cookies only 40 cookies can be prepared easily in
four hours and other common cookies can easily prepared within four hours. So
the orders of the cookies are depend upon the categories of the cookies that
are ordered (Radnor, Bateman, Esain, Kumar, Williams, & Upton, 2015).
Question 3:
How much of your own
and your roommate’s valuable time will it take to fill each order?
Answer
The time depend upon the category
of the cookies means that if the order is to prepare the common baked cookies
so they take only 15 minutes to fill the required order and if the category of
the cookies are ceramal cookies so they take two hours to fill that order and
when there is order of chocolate cookies so that it will take only an hour to
complete this order. But for making the cookies you and your roommate have to
perform the physical operations before preparing the cookies. The first
physical operation is to wash the electric mixers bowl and then the cookies
tray and also other things that are required to prepare the cookies. So after
calculating all the time that is used to perform the necessary physical
operations and also for preparing the cookies this time depends upon the
category of cookies (Radnor, Bateman, Esain, Kumar, Williams, & Upton, 2015).
Question 4
Because your baking trays can hold exactly one dozen cookies you will
produce and sell cookies by the dozen. Should you give any discount for people
who order two dozen cookies, three dozen cookies and more? If so, how
much? Will it take you any longer to
fill a two-dozen cookie order than a one dozen cookie order?
Answer
The baking tray and able to hold
only one dozen cookies, and when the customer demands more than one dozen so
for them there are some discounts. The discount will be equal to the two
cookies price and so when the customer orders 2 dozen of cookies, their
discount will be equal to 2 cookies price. When the customer orders 3 dozen of
cookies for them the discount will be equal to the 3 cookies price. The cookie
price rate will depend upon the number of dozen orders for cookies (Bendoly, Wezel, G, & Bachrach, 2015).
Question 5:
How many electric mixers and baking trays will you need?
Answer
The electric mixers and baking
trays are depending upon the rate of orders in the rush hours. The electric
mixers for mixing the cookies paste also depend upon the category of cookie you
are made. There will one mixer for each category of the cookie this will help
to decrease the physical operation and because of this for completing the order
less time will be required. The baking tray also depends upon the category of
the cookies. But this also depends upon the number of orders of the cookies
each day. Suppose the chocolate cookies are the most favorite cookies between
the students and there are a lot of orders placed for the chocolate cookies
each day. So, baking trays for the chocolates cookies must be more than two for
completing the order. This means that the baking trays depend upon the number
of orders (Das, 2015).
Question 6:
Are there any changes you can make in your production plans
that will allow you to make better cookies or more cookies in less time or at
lower cost? For example, is there a bottleneck operation in your production
process that you can expand cheaply? What is the effect of adding another oven?
How much would you be willing to pay to rent an additional oven?
Answer
Yes, there are some changes can
be made to improve your production of cookies and also improve the quality of
cookies in low time and also at very low price. This can be achieving through
powerful electric oven. The owner has to replace the two oven with only single
powerful oven so that this will able to baked the cookies in less time and when
less time is required to baked the cookies so this means that when less time
required to baked the cookies and also this oven can able to baked more than 5
dozen cookies. Because of this process the cost of each cookie will be
decrease. Completing the order of caramel cookies and also the chocolate
cookies is a bottleneck operation; because of this the production rate of
cookies will be lower. For this bottleneck operation of production can easily
covered through using this powerful oven. There will be very low affect to the
business by adding this oven because by using this powerful electric oven the
production rate will be increase by three times (KHANNA, 2015).
