Are the lives of children at risk
because of increasing obesity? The children obesity in Kuwait is reaching an
epidemic, and it has become a major health issue in country. Over the last decade the rate of obesity is
rapidly increasing among young children in Kuwait. Obesity is a major threat to
the lives of our new generations. There are many of reason behind the
increasing rate of obesity among the children for example; lack of physical
activities, unhealthy diet, overeating etc. With the increasing obesity in the children, there is
also an increased risk of having many of the non-communicable diseases. All
such diseases are taking the lives of many people every year. The Parents
of children generally don’t consider obesity a major health issue but it is. The parents have the responsibility to take
care of diet and physical activities of children, to help them overcome the
obesity.
The parents need to understand
the cause of obesity in their children and before it gets too late it should be
controlled. The question here is that how obesity can be controlled? Awareness
should be given to the parents along with children so that they can come to
know about after effects of obesity. First thing parents can do is to know
exactly the reason behind their children obesity because reason of obesity
varies person to person. The parents remember that obesity can also put their children’s
lives at danger. It is well said by Tom Vilsack “The rise of childhood obesity has placed the health of an entire
generation at risk”. Awareness concerning consequences of obesity must be
given to the parents and children through seminars, small lectures in schools
and also through television shows (Nahhas, Asamoah, Mullen, Nwaru, & Nurmatov, 2018).
The parents need to focus on the
dietary habits and physical activities of children. They made sure that food
that children consuming is healthy and nutritious. Jung food should be omitted
from the children’s diet because it is one of the major causes of obesity. As David
H. Murdock said “By eating many fruits and vegetables in place of fast food
and junk food, people could avoid obesity.” Parents make sure to add different vegetables and fruits in
children’s diet as they can also help in reducing weight and being healthy. The
fizzy drinks and other sweeteners that contain a lot of sugar must be cut down to
make children healthy and fit. Other than healthy diet, the physical activities
must be encouraged by parents to make their children fit and fight against
obesity. The physical
activity is a must thing for obese children. They should take part in different
games which require physical effort to help them reduce their weight quickly
and stay fit and healthy. Adopting a healthy life style with proper healthy
diet and physical activity is best solution to fight against obesity in Kuwait (Alrashidi, Shahwan-Akl, James, & Jones, 2015).
Summing up the discussion it can be said that for overcoming
the increasing rate of obesity in Kuwait, the parents of the children also need
to take an initiate. The parent can play a major role in children’s obesity
treatment. There is need to create awareness about obesity among parents and
children, so they can recognize the problem. Parents must focus on the dietary
habits and other activities that are causing obesity in their children. After
knowing the reason, the parents needs to take a step ahead, helping their
children overcoming the obesity. Primarily healthy diet must be followed by
children, and Jung food and fizzy drinks must be omitted from diet. So, I may
be said that parents can support their children to overcome obesity improve
healthy life style for their children.
