Guns are the potential tools for
killing in an instant. Many people believe that guns protect people and help in
defending a thief and whatsoever. However, they also lead to intentional and
unintentional mass killing. In many countries and mainly US, guns are allowed
under certain laws and conditions. Although such guns are acquired under the
allowance of law and regulations, they are blocked from being used in public
and other normal areas. In US, gun control is not powerful as there are both
supporting and non-supporting parties. The resulting effect leads to several
crimes of robbery and murdering. Guns are harmful whether they are handled by
teenagers or adults. Relying on the tools that can possibly harm other has
never been good and such tools need to be prohibited from being used. In US,
laws on gun control loosen up instead of tightening around those who own guns. In
this essay, both of the parties concerning the gun control are going to be
considered and discussed. Mass shooting do bring attention to the topic of gun
control, however, the policy changes remain static due to the preference of
parties. Gun control must be tightened in US to decrease a diversity of crimes.
Due to the loose gun control in
US, a brutal shooting session was carried out by a gunman in Connecticut in
2012, Dec 14. The massacred individuals included six adults and twenty
children. This event had taken place only after six month of a shooting session
at Colorado when seventy people had been killed by James Holmes. One and a half
year in the past, 18 people had been shot and it included Gabrielle Giffords as
well who was the US representative. All the suspects in the killing sessions
were found to be mentally ill. They used the guns with very large magazines
that were capable of killing more. However, Supreme Court rulings don’t affect
the gun control as much due to the presence of parties that supported the use
of Guns (McGinty, Webster and Barry). In Texas 2016,
students who were older than twenty-one were allowed to carry guns to the
campus. Due to the mass killing, Florida changed its Stand Your Ground law and made the prosecutors prove that the gun
owner did what was unreasonable. Meanwhile, Nevada processed a law with which
gun owners would be allowed to kills those who were after their vehicles. Thus,
killing the thief was allowed. According to the supporters of guns, they are
tools that help the owner in protecting themselves against a harmful situation.
For example, if a thief tried to harm them in a way or tried to take their
belongings away, they could rely on guns and protect themselves. Countless
other situations were given in order to loosen the gun control and given public
an access to the tools that could help people save their lives and themselves. In
Iowa, children with the age lower than fourteen were allowed to carry guns if
they had the supervision of a guardian. (Luca, Malhotra and Poliquin)
Many killing, robbing, and
homicides include the reliability offered by guns. Furthermore, the government
officials who were killed, they were shot by guns. No doubt, guns offer a
safety, however, the chances of committing a crime also increase with the
presence. Guns are quite versatile. They help in hunting, eliminating the pests
and varmints, provide an entertainment to those who like sports, and protect the
property from potential thieves. However, they offer an opportunity to
eliminate a person from the way. In US, the need of owning guns has increased
with the rising urbanization. Many Americans die by only a single gunfire. In
1998, the suicide numbers were 5,600 and all of them involved a gun. No doubt,
the self-defense acts offer a logical reason in the case of chronic violence,
gang fights, protection against drug dealers. However, many self-defense as the
supporting parties of guns claim don’t include these acts (Cook, Braga and Moore). Allowing the kids
to carry guns is not advantageous under any condition. In a certain situation, a
shot might be fired by the child unintentionally and someone may be harmed. Using
guns against thieves should not be allowed as a life is important regardless of
the intentions. Instead of using guns, tasers must be used under the situations
that can be harmful for the person. When it comes to crimes, guns are involved
and countless studies tell that. The mere presence of guns is enough to raise
the chances of a crime as most of the times they are used for the purposes that
are unhealthy. The mental disorders of suspects after crimes involving mass
killing don’t offer a base as all the suspects had a gun or two while
committing the crime. Despite their mental illness, they got their hands on
guns and it is enough to tell about the loose gun control and how it should be
tightened. (Kopel)
In US, gun control is a topic
with a rising controversy. Not many laws tighten the gun control due to which mass
killing and other crimes involving guns are common. Although, there are
positive points of owning a gun under permission but it is undeniable that gun
is a very dangerous tool. Many crimes in US are carried out using a gun and not
much attention is paid to the laws that can help in tightening the gun control.
It is true that guns help a lot in self-defense acts. However, they are many
other alternatives such as tasers and proper training focusing on hand-to-hand
combat. With a strong gun control, many potential crimes like thefts and
violation of rights can be reduced to a significant level. In order to tighten
the gun control, the price of the guns must be raised and the availability must
be reduced. Moreover, the access of
public to weapons specifically guns must be restricted by the officials to
decrease the crime rate. The parties supporting the access of guns need to be
engaged and consulted accordingly. The gun control is a sensitive topic and it must
be controlled according the crime rate in US.
