Essay on American Culture

Category: History Paper Type: Essay Writing Reference: MLA Words: 990

The people in the United States have always been famous as the . They make great values for themselves and also keep tightly to the ideals which they accept as true, essential, and enviable. Although perhaps the Americans do not appear to always live with these ideals, or we could say it , however, they adhere a bundle of foundation beliefs in which the government of America was founded and they keep on continue to the practical life in the present day (Crunden).

There are American  which shaped the description of American culture (Welch, Gruhl and Thomas). These core values have let the United States to combine numbers of diverse cultures in all over the world, and turned it into an exclusive and long-lasting identity of the people in The United States, and they are:

Liberty defines as the value that declared that every single person must have the freedom to think, speak, as well as act whatever they want without offend or disturb on the rights or freedom of other people.

Self-government describes as the value that states that every American citizens have their rights to give opinion on how the administration of the Government in the United States.

Equality is the value that explains that every individuals should be treated equally, with nobility, and also be able to grasp the fair opportunities for education, financial, political activities, and a prosper life.

Individualism describes as the value that is dedicated to independence, self-initiative, development of personal financial, and also self-capability.

Justice is the value that explains that every citizen in the United States have their right to get proper justice without viewing any ethnic, class, or race.

Different societies definitely have different type of cultures; a culture presents the beliefs and practices within a group. In the other hand, a society describes as the people who share these thoughts and practices. For this reason, it is important that every member of the society must have to recognize the core values in order to maintain the social structures of the people.

Values are claimed to be linked to the norms of any culture, however, values are appear to be further universal and also more rational than norms. Norms offers certain principles for behavior in special or particular terms, meanwhile, values classifies what things that must be judged as right or wrong. Norms are consider as usual patterns, principles and guidance of anticipated manners, while values are consider as conceptual ideas of what is fundamental and valuable. Each member has their own role in a culture despite the fact that sometimes the personal values of certain members do not completely in the same line with a number of the normative values approved in that culture. If any member of the society presents a value that really trigger the conflicts with the values on the society, then the executive authority from the society authority could carry out certain methods of motivating traditional values or maybe classify the non-conforming manner of that member (Parson and White).

Jonathan Haidt describes the sociological insights in the Moral Roots of Liberal and Conservatives that no matter if we are liberal or conservative, the objective that the we all have is to figure out more deeper and proper understanding of the world, and our broad lack of moral variety is going to make it difficult. Once the entire people will share the values as well as morals, that is the time when they become a team. And if we involve the psychology of the teams, it will turns off the free and open-minded mindset. Moreover, Jonathan said that liberals appears to have quite noble motives from traditional power and morality which able to be slight oppressive and  also preventive as the liberals always speak for the fragile and oppressed people. In the other hand, conservatives speak for traditions and also organizations (daverupert.com).

A theory by W. I. Thomas explained that “If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences.” The definition from this theory is that, the behavior of people could be measured by “their subjective constructions of reality rather than by objective reality.”

The group affiliation could potentially affects the individual’s ability to understand the validity of the points which made by others with giving the equal or same portion for each member to speak and express their ideas or points. If a group affiliation could give the equal or same portion of freedom to speak and express their ideas, then every single member of the group will develop the ability to respect each other and understand the validity of the points which made by others as well. For that reason, it is important that a group to share the same values and give the same rights for each of the members so that there will be no inequality among them. Since there is no inequality, then each member will able to understand and accept the validity of others’ points since the other member will also understand the validity of the points that he or she has made. It is actually more like take and give which are appeared to be the most potential thing to influence anyone. In simple words, if you feel that the other members could understand the validity of your points, then definitely, you will also able to understand the validity of their points as well.
