This book named “What is the Role
of Technology in Education?” is written by Judeen Bartos, and it was published
in 2012. The main focus of this book is to discuss what role technology can
play in the education sector. The book has focused on the need of technology in
all aspects of education, which is certainly a right approach to enhance the
reach and capability of education so that even disable persons can have an education
like normal individuals.
Summary of the Role of Technology in Education
In this particular book, the
author has stressed its focus on technology and its role in the education
field. It is true that technology has been growing its influence in every
sphere of life, so its influence and impact on the education field is obvious, and
this is what is discussed in this book. It has analyzed how technology can be
beneficial for enhancing the level of education for the people, especially the
people with disabilities. It has also focused on the role of e-texts with
regards to making a considerable impact on the field of traditional publishing.
The online/internet-based education has also been one of the major points of
discussion in this book (Bartos).
Response of the Role of Technology in Education
The content of this text has been
very comprehensive and logical, so overall, I don’t disagree with the author on
any particular argument. However, I agree with the author on so many points. For
instance, I strongly agree with him that the role of technology is crucial in
the education sector, especially for persons with disabilities. Their
disability limits their reach and capabilities to get an education like others,
but a great thing about technology is that it facilitates them in so many ways.
If the education sector can realize the potential of technology for disabled persons,
then much can be achieved in the future.
The other major point that I
agree with the author is the role of online/internet education. It is a fact
that internet has made its presence everywhere, so it is great opportunity for
the education sector to take advantages from the internet and boost the online
education sector as it can allow quality education to reach areas, where there
are no quality physical, educational institutions. The people can take
education from renowned institutes from all around the world through virtual
education, which is great for the future of education. The developing world
students cannot take quality education like the developed world, so these
students can get connected with educational institutes and universities from
the developed world, and get the latest quality education. The ideas discussed
in this book has been very much logical, and they have really matched with my
thinking approach (Frezzo).
In the end, the author settled
that the role of technology in education is in providing the essential tools to
be used, in order to solve the problems. It assists the scholars, reimagine
lessons, reform the systems of cost, and also gives the challenge for the
scholars in innovative approaches. In fact, Bartos also mentioned that
technology itself could be a “difference-maker” in many different
scopes such as educators and industry shills as well (Bartos).
Conclusion on the Role of Technology in Education
It can be concluded in the end
that role of technology will keep increasing in the education sector, so it is
important for stakeholders to realize this fact and embrace the changes made by
technology so that education sector can grow and facilitate people of all kinds
including the people with disability. And, as also mentioned above, technology
itself could be “difference-maker” for many different scopes.
