The project that is selected in Summer Undergraduate
Research Fellowship (SURF) is about parking lots mitigating runoff
contamination. Under this research project, there would be implementation of
the most effective mitigating runoff contamination in the parking lots. As it
is an academic research project, so there will also be need for mentoring for
the experts in the field who would not only guide us but also help us to expand
our understanding of the field in which the research project is operating. The objective of this research project is to appraise
the rainfall effects and antecedent settings on the surface of parking lot composition
runoff. The main goals of the project is to recognize toxicity and contaminant
focusses initiate in runoff from parking lots, measure the time length needed
for residents to re-accumulate when it is washed, and examine how variations in
concentration and period of rainfall have an effect on runoff in the parking
lots (Meade, 2017).

This project also likely to measure the effects of parking
lot maintenance on chemical toxicity and composition of runoff. The calculation
of accretion rates of designated contaminants over time and throughout period
of discrete time. The variations study in rainfall concentrations and periods
affecting surface of parking lot runoff concentrations to govern similar measures
of rainwater cause alike contaminant concentrations effects over time. Potential
dealings between treatments (for example unmaintained stations vs. maintained
stations) also inspected (Meade, 2017).
The simulation of rainfall techniques and equipment were
used for measuring the rainfall effects on runoff surface. Under this research
project the sampling was approved out by using 3 matching simulators of rainfall
designed to replacement intensities of the natural rainfall. The simulators of
the rainfall in the Runoff Contamination were considered to capture and isolate
the whole portion of the surface runoff traveling off each sampling site. The
toxicity testing program was designed to achieve three main objectives in the
project. The street sweeping efficiency in refining the parking lot runoff quality
was dignified by runoff concentrations comparison between unmaintained and maintained
stations. This project also likely to define the toxicity magnitude in runoff collected
sample from either the rainfall or accumulation duration and intensity experiments.
All in all this research project would identify the mitigating practice runoff
contamination in the Parking Lots (Revitt, Lundy, Coulon, &
Fairley, 2014).
Work Plan of Effectiveness of
Runoff Contamination and Identification of Best Practice on Mitigating Runoff
Contamination at Parking Lots
The
research project for mitigating practice runoff contamination in the Parking
Lots is about 2 weeks long. Following is the work plan for the mitigating runoff
contamination in the Parking Lots. Working according to following time, would
also help to finish the whole operations and requirements of the research projects
on time.

Here
are all of the operations that are needed to be done in this research
project. First the samples from the parking lots would be gather to make a
decision for the best solution for runoffs. The project is investigated and
after the analysis the solution got the mitigating runoff is analyzed. The best
design for the mitigating runoff is selected and then the project is
implemented. At the end the test if conducted for the selected mitigating
runoff for the parking lots to examining its validity.
Expected Outcome of Effectiveness
of Runoff Contamination and Identification of Best Practice on Mitigating
Runoff Contamination at Parking Lots
At the end of the 10 week, it is expected that the best
solution for the mitigating runoff for the parking lots is implemented. It is
also expected that the design of the new selected mitigating runoff would be
effective enough to pass the testing. The selected mitigating runoff expected
to provide a good solution for the runoff problems in the parking lots and hopefully
it would be effective enough to survive in heavy rain and reduce the level of
toxicity in the land. This research project is likely to make runoff contamination
of the parking lots more effective.
Relevant experience of
Effectiveness of Runoff Contamination and Identification of Best Practice on
Mitigating Runoff Contamination at Parking Lots
Throughout my academic carrier I have learn a few
concepts regarding the water sanitation and underground water storage and
resources as I am doing structural engineering. Although I not have any sort of
professional experience regarding runoff contamination kind of projects but
once I have gone through water runoff
issue in the road in front of my house. The people because of heavy rain the
poor road condition having difficulty riding their vehicles I personally
complaint against the issue and some engineers came here is resolve the issue.
They also block the road partially to recover all destruction in the road. So I
have observe some of operations that they had done during the whole process.
Professional goals of
Effectiveness of Runoff Contamination and Identification of Best Practice on
Mitigating Runoff Contamination at Parking Lots
In
the next five years, I want to peruse my career in constructional engineering
design because I am major in structural engineering. I find it very exciting to
make the designs and structure of different mechanisms. I have more interest in
making the structural design of the bridges because amazing design and
structure of bridges in the city fascinates me a lot. I have to work very hard
to accomplish my goals as my passion need me to be skillful and know about the
technicalities of the field of structural engineering.
Budget request of Effectiveness of Runoff Contamination and
Identification of Best Practice on Mitigating Runoff Contamination at Parking
Lots
For carrying out this research project I would need up
to $ 300 funds because I have to conduct a lot of research and investigation
for this project. Although I have some relatives that can support me but I
think it is good for me to go for the students loans from the bank. I choose
bank because it is more convenient for me, and I am not very comfortable asking
money from the relatives. I would get 250$ loan from bank and I have some
personal saving to afford the rest of my research project. The total of 300$ budget
for this research project would be more than enough for me.
