A Graduate
Dean is interested in predicting the success (defined as final GPA) of students
in her Graduate Programs. She has a data
set that includes five demographic variables (e.g. gender, undergraduate Grade
Point Average, Graduate Record scores, etc.).
She is interested in a predictive model that she can use as part of the
admission process.

Question and Hypothesis
In the
educational institution, the role of students and teachers is effective that
develop a good reputation among other institutions. The teacher and students
are important assets of the educational institution. However, the experienced
and professional teachers develop the competition among the students which is
ultimately the development of good reputation that attract a large number of
students towards that particular institution.
Therefore,
there are several factors that enhance the development and good reputation of the
educational institution and decrease the development which is important to be
focused on sustainable development. Moreover, the developmental factors are
effective teaching style, fair checking criteria, and evaluation of the
students, punctuality of both teachers and students, availability of teachers
for the students and effective relationship between teachers and students so
that students are easily discussed their problems regarding the studies.
However, here
is a scenario discussed of an educational institution in which the role of the teacher
is described which have different thinking about the evaluation of the students
during the checking of papers. The main issue which is raised here is that the
evaluation of the student is based on the different aspects regarding their
knowledge and information gained during the studies that show their
intellectual behavior towards their graduate degree. The teacher focused on the
other factors for the evaluation of the students that are demographic variables
of the student like their gender, their academic record during the whole study,
and the average of their GPA.
So, these
evaluating criteria are not effective which disturb the performance of students
that reduce the performance of the educational institution. The teacher needs
some models that are affecting the factors on which he/she evaluate the
graduate students (Stronge and Tucker).
The success
of the student is based on its effort which he/she perform by sharing their
ideas and thoughts regarding the subject on the paper about the question which
is asked by the teachers. So, the criteria of the success are based on the
knowledge of the student which he/she shared during the examination. But in the
above scenario, the dean of graduate used the demographic variables to evaluate
the success of the student and need a predictive model which is not the right
way for the evaluation of the success.
Research questions and
Hypothesis
Is predictive
model effective for the evaluation of academic success on the base of variables
of demographics?
Null Hypothesis
The predictive
model is not effective for the evaluation of academic success.
Alternative of Research
Question and Hypothesis
Other models
rather than Predictive model will be effective for the evaluation of academic success.
Scenario#2 of Research
Question and Hypothesis
The county
manager in a county in Ohio, is interested in a data driven decision model for
selecting seasonal road re-paving plans.
Department heads and county commissioners have brainstormed a list of 53
possible variables that may be useful in re-paving location decisions. The manager is interested in grouping those
variables in to clusters of High Importance/Predictors, Medium Importance/Predictors
and Low Importance/predictors.

Question and Hypothesis
The county
manager has developed the seasonal re-paving plans for roads which is an
effective decision for the development of the company. but in an effective and
competitive organization, all decision-making process is taken by involving all
the managers and head of the department in a meeting to discuss all factors
either positive or negative by brainstorming to develop effective strategies
that enhance the development of the country.
But in this scenario manager itself take
decision for re-paving plans and not consider all variables which are important
to be considered. But these variables are considered by the head of the department
and county commissioner which are beneficial for the re-paving plan according
to their locations (Fraser and Jessica). So, it should be
organized the meeting of all managers and departments heads to discuss all the
variables for the effective re-paving of roads that are important for the
development of the transportation company of Ohio.
Research questions and
Hypothesis
Is counter manager consider all the variables
that are important for the effectiveness of the re-paving design of road?
Null Hypothesis
The county
manager does not consider all other variables like traffic, buildings of
different sectors which are effective and important to be discussed during the
re-paving of road
Alternative of Research
Question and Hypothesis
The county manager
will discuss all other variables (like traffic, buildings for different
purposes) which are effective and important to discuss during the re-paving of the
road.
Scenario#3 of Research
Question and Hypothesis
A medium size
company (500 employees), in the tech industry, with two office complex
locations, is considering adding a wellness component to its terms of
employment. That requirement would apply
to all new hires and would be phased in over a three-year period for current
employees. Based on a survey of all
current employee, the CEO is interested in determining the impact on attrition
of current employees.

Question and Hypothesis
In this
modern time, the role of the organization is important in the development of the
country. The employees are considered as important assets as they performing
for the development of the organization. However, it is important for the development
of an organization to facilitate the employees by providing a suitable working
environment, effective organizational culture, reward system through the fair
evaluation of the organization. this practice enhanced the retention rate of
employees. So, it is necessary for a business company to develop effective
strategies that enhance the development and performance but also enhanced the retention
rate of employees which is good for the company reputation.
When the
organization does not consider their employees like their feelings, comfort,
fairness, and loyalty then it would lead towards the high rate f turnover of
employees due to lack of facilities. Moreover, high turnover reduces the
performance, productivity and economic development of the company as well as
its reputation destroyed among its competitors which is a great loss of the
company (Coetzee and Stoltz).
Here, a
scenario is discussed in which the medium size company having 500 employees
working in the tech industry. In the company, the two offices are located on
the complex and different location which is causing difficulty for the
employees working in this industry. So, the management of the company decided
to shift the employees to the new office and also hiring new employees and they
work in that complex location office. It is an effective strategy for the
development of the company but the CEO of the company does not consider the
feelings and emotions of employees which is important for the management.
The CEO of the
company wants to extend its business that leads towards the development and
growth of economy of country. It is important for the CEO of company to
consider the problems of employees as they performed well for the development
of the company. The management decided to shift employees working from 3 years
and new employees. Moreover, the CEO also monitoring the impact on the
performance of employees after shifting to a new office.
Research questions and
Hypothesis
Does the decision
of wellness program by the management affect the attrition of the current
employees working in the tech industry?
Null Hypothesis
The decision
of the wellness program by the manager does not affect the attrition of the
current employee as they leaving the industry.
Alternative of Research
Question and Hypothesis
The decision
of the wellness program by the manager will have affect the attrition of the
current employee as they leaving the industry.
