In high-schools, students often face the issue of not being
able to participate in different activities which require them to be at the
front of the whole class or show their talent. It is just because of the reason
that they haven’t had much experience with how they can express themselves in
front of many individuals.
Maybe you are also facing the same issue and don’t know what
to do.
Well, the very first thing that you should do is to have
belief in yourself. It is your self-belief which pushes you when you cannot see
the light. You might not know but students tend to stumble only because they
are underestimating themselves. They know that they are more capable but they
just are nervous and it causes them to make a mistake.
What is the role of
debate in all this?
A debate is actually an activity in which you take a topic as
a team of three members and confront another team on the same topic. One team
has to focus on the positive aspects of the topic while the other team has to
focus on the negative aspects of the same topic. Both have to argue with each
other in a very composed and stoic manner. This activity is one of the most
important ways used for increasing the confidence of students.
A debate is normally is carried out in front of either the
whole class or whole student-body. If you believe that you are low on
confidence, you can simply participate in a debate.
How confidence is
improved?
In a debate, you have to remember all the valid points of the
main theme and shoot them at the opposing member of the team. In doing so, you
have to keep yourself uptight and composed. You don’t have to show any of your
weak points to the opposing team by making sure that you are not being rude or
showing too many expressions.
You have to stand straight and explain your points stoicly
which makes viewers believe that you have confidence in what you are talking
about. The moment you find any opening in the way how the opposing team is
arguing, you can throw another point and prove that you are explaining the
right thing.
Believe me, the moment you hear applause, it boosts your
confidence a lot.
In order to prepare for a debate, you should practice how you
are performing either in front of the mirror or your friends. Both of these
ways are effective and you can analyze the areas which require further
improvement. Although you can gain guidance from the mirror but it won’t be as
effective as the feedback that you will be able to obtain from your friends or
teacher.
Remember that even if someone laughs at first, it doesn’t
mean that you cannot perform better the next time. You just have to try your
hardest and prove all others wrong about your confidence.
