Horror movies have become so common that we don’t even think
about them or how just how they are being perceived by the children watching
them. Even if we think about it, we often ignore it because we think that
horror movies don’t affect us so they also will not impact children as well.
However, it is not like that at all.
What is horror movie
made of?
The most common thing that every horror movie includes is a
monster or phantom erupting from the dark and eliciting shrieks out of the
viewers. This scene is not interpreted in a similar way by every present
viewer.
A normal teenager might perceive it just as a well-made scene
which intends to scare the viewers while raising anticipation for the next
scene as well. This scene doesn’t seem to go beyond this line of ideas because
we are talking about a teenager here and not a child. We can definitely claim
that even if a teenage watches horror movies, he can easily sleep and not even
think about what he has watched and if that was even real or not.
A children perceives the scenes as not fiction but as
reality. They think that what they are watching is not fiction but scenes
captured from the real life. Their childish brains come to believe that if they
are present in the dark, someone really might pounce on them and pull them in
the dark. In other words, they make the scenes of a horror movie reality and
that is what really affected them.
Impact on children
As we said that darkness is specially featured in horror
movies and it is taken advantage of by the movie makers. Children think that in
the real life, there is someone lurking in the darkness waiting to catch them
off-guard and harm them. Even if they are told that there is nothing like that,
they still are afraid of the dark. Some sensitive children are badly impacted
by horror movies and they develop a phobia of the darkness.
Whenever there is darkness, they are unable to act brave and
this is the first bad impact watching horror movies.
There are children who are extra-sensitive and they cannot
bear watching movies full of gore. Due to all the artificial blood that they
see in the movie, they develop a trauma which constantly haunts them. This
trauma keeps on playing in their minds and takes their sleep away.
Most of the children are unable to sleep by themselves
because they are afraid of the dark. And when they fall asleep, they have
nightmares which causes them wake up in the middle of the night. This is the
second bad effect of watching horror movies. If you have a sibling or kid that
is acting in this way, it is better to monitor him or her and see if he is
watching horror movies or not.
Horror movies are made for adults and not for children.
