At present, almost every person,
especially teenagers use different platforms of social media. It wouldn’t be wrong
to say that social media has stirred the whole world ever since it has been
introduced.
What is social media?
Social media is actually a
collection of interfaces that require internet for running. It asks the user to
create an account on a specific platform and become an active member of the
social community. This community is also comprised of individuals from all over
the world. The main purpose of social media is to keep every user in a
connection with others. For instance, a person can either follow or become
friends with others and stay in a connection with them.
Social media running on the
internet doesn’t care about distances at all. Even if a person is sitting in a
corner of the world, he can easily connect with his friend through social media
on the other corner of the world.
Platforms of social media
Some of the most common platforms
of social media are Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram. All of these
platforms other than just connecting individuals also entertain them. It is the
benefit of social media that we cannot ignore that we can talk with our friends
using the chatting protocol regardless of the distances that exist between us. Facebook
is mostly used for conversing with friends while for entertainment, the other
three platforms are used, especially YouTube.
Bad effects of social media
Social media is like an addiction
that cannot be left behind easily once it has been initiated by the person. Moreover,
the platforms of social media can easily be installed on mobile phones and used
directly through phones. It means that using it like eating a piece of cake and
that is why so many individuals are usually engrossed in their phones. Some of
the bad effects of this addiction are:
Loneliness: Surely, social media
helps in connecting people with others and their relatives while giving them a
source to converse through. They can even share what they are doing through
pictures and feed. It really is a good option but it also keeps users from
direct interaction. People have become so accustomed to making virtual
relations, they have forgotten how to create original and direct relations.
Most of us prefer our rooms and
our phones instead of the outside world.
Cybercrime: Social media also has
given a gateway for scammers and hackers to get access to the accounts of
others and obtain confidential information about users. This information is
then used by them for blackmailing the users. This example is quite minor
because the actual cases have already crossed the imagination.
Social media is both beneficial and harmful to
people because it consumes almost all the time of users. In order to avoid
being badly affected by social media, it is very important to maintain a
balance between other tasks and use of social media.
