It is illustrated by Lennie Irvin that a new
college student might face lots of questions and anxiety regarding the writing
assignments and the task he or she has to submit in the college on time. However,
the success of a student in academic writing depends on the understanding
regarding task; if the understanding and approach towards completing a writing
task are good then good grades and overall academic success is guaranteed. Furthermore,
the author has discussed several myths about writing and most significant out
of those myths is that a writer can start writing only if he or she has figured
out everything regarding the topic; it is not necessary, once you start writing,
you will start exploring the new facts and figure until you are done. The
author emphasized that making the first draft perfect is not necessary, there
is always a room for improvement before final submission so doesn't be afraid
of the errors in the first draft because this is how you learn. The author has
highly discouraged the use of the first-person perspective in academic writing
such as I and encouraged the third person perspective. The author has discussed
the academic writing situations in a brief including audience and context etc. Furthermore,
the keys of good academic writing include the ability to understand or read
complex texts, knowledge of research skills, understanding of disciplinary
concepts, and critical response to latest information because academic writing
overall is an argument and analysis having three common types i.e. closed
writing assignment, semi-open writing assignment, and open writing assignment.
