The
workplace provides opportunities for employees to fulfill their
responsibilities. The appropriate definition of workplace violence was provided
by The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The harmful action
including physical threat, harassment, and violence that causes disruptive
behavior is workplace violence. Workplace violence decreases the efficiency of
the employee because the organization faces legal repercussion. The unsafe and
the threatened employees can result in the reluctance of working abilities and
motivation. The decreased level of motivation induces a negative impact on the
productivity, profit maximization, and efficiency of workers. Both genders are
equally facing the risk of violence, but statistical analysis shows that women
are facing more violence as compared to men.
The
statistics of provided by Bureau of Labor Statistics Census describes that 18%
of the women were victims of physical assault while on the other hand only 8 %
of the male deaths were observed at the job due to homicide. In another
statistical analysis conducted by the U. S.
Department of Justice Bureau, the statistical report considers the
violation of crimes and the workplace violation. The working women face violent
crimes like sexual assault and rape. The lowest reported percentage of the
crimes at the workplace is 24 %. The analysis of reasoning related to workplace
violation is a complicated case. The statistical studies are beyond the facts.
In 2016, the Bureau of Labor Statistics Census identified that 18 % of the
working women are becoming victims of male co-workers and 15 % of males were
dragged to death by female attackers. After that, the national institute for
Occupational safety and health identified some socioeconomic reasons of workplace
violence
Besides the other facts, the common reason of
violence was staff shortage, low inspection rate, poor background checks,
improper channel to report the violence, and intimidation techniques. The
prevention programs are essentially required to be developed by the management
of workplaces. A survey conducted by the Healthcare in the United States
considered top companies and industries that face issues of workplace violence.
The data collected by the Bureau of Labor statistics were published in the New
England Journal of Medicine and the statistical data considered 12.2 % of the
employed population of America. The analysis illustrated that 75 % of the
workers were suffering from workplace violence. The incidents were recorded
higher in 2011 as 154 injuries due to the shooting was recorded in the American
Hospitals.
The solution to reducing violence is to
hire authentic workers in the organization after having a complete analysis of
criminal activities and records. The workplace violence is subdivided into five
parts including criminal intent, customer and client description, work
association with the conflict, domestic partners at the workplace, and
ideological differences in the employees.
The increase in the workplace violence
incidents is becoming an alarming situation for the government as well as for
the employees. The prevention programs are provided by different agencies such
as OSHA. The other solutions are also possible such as supported programs of
workplace violence and minimization of different compensation programs. These
programs are specially designed to reduce the conflicts and for effective
reporting of evaluation programs.
The important factor is that severity and
probability of the workplace violation are also related to the job positions in
the workplace. The managerial department must consider the safety of workers
and should provide alarming systems. The disorder generated in working
capabilities has an impact on the working relationship, the ability of the worker
to perform the task and can eventually end with suicide. Such incidents also
promote workplace violence and induce a negative impact on other workers,
females and children.
