In the conference of united state mayors n 2008, 28% cities was surveyed
reported and consider that many needs to be fulfilled for homelessness. The
treatment is not suitable for both housed and homeless with substance abuse depended.
According to national association of state alcohol and drug abuse directors
estimated that almost 19.3 million people didn’t receive the treatment services.
the lack of insurance and high cost prevent mostly people to get rid from the
drug addiction with good treatment and medication. Further hurdles in this
regard are lack of documentation, long waiting lists and lack of
transportation. Funds are going to be targeted for the federal substance abuse
treatment and prevention programs. Homeless substance abuser have some specific
needs and programs must be arranged to compete that needs. Existing programs
must be more strengthened. Proper public policies must be implemented that make
treatment and prevention more effective and give more benefit to people. For
homeless, substance abuse are both elements the cause and the result. So at the
same time we should handle both problems. Care centers must be arranged that
support such addicted people , give them job opportunities and handle with
their needs so they never try to move towards the substance abuse in any case.
