In each uploading any video,
YouTube always gives a message to its user asking them not to infringe
copyright laws. However, there are still huge
numbers of unauthorized clips of copyrighted material on YouTube. YouTube does
not observe videos before they will be posted,
and it depends on the copyright holders
to address any issue in terms of
the Online Copyright Infringement Liability Limitation Act. If there is
any winning complaint about copyright violation will consequence in
a YouTube copyright strike?
1.
Community
rules of YouTube
YouTube already made a list
of community procedures with the purpose to decrease mistreatment of the
features on the site. The company forbade
material such as sexually open content, the clips of animal
cruelty, distress videos, content that uploaded with no permission of
copyright, spam, and greedy behavior. Regardless of the guidelines, YouTube
still needs to face negative feedbacks
from news sources for content in infringement of these procedures.
2.
No
Guarantee of YouTube
The
other considerable risk associated with YouTube marketing is that you have no
guarantee that your content will get views and likes. A company may invest
$10000 to make an ad video for YouTube, and they may end up getting only 1000 views
for it. A company may do everything right to make a video, which should be
watched by the viewers, but still they don’t watch it for any particular reason
like they don’t see an interesting thing to watch in it. Moreover, the content
may get negative reviews and comments instead of receiving positive ones, which
also shows the great risk of wasting time and money (Gaille)
The cases above would not happen if the
management in YouTube could effectively observe each video before it would exist and viewed from people around the globe.
The fact that YouTube has become the famous one among the other companies in
the same field; obviously, YouTube needs
to be very strict and careful in observing, filtering, and censoring each
video. It is not an easy task to do, but it is necessary for the good of both
the people and YouTube itself (Jarboe).
Examples of Failure:
3.
Failure
to Stop Unauthorized Streaming of Copyright Video Content of YouTube
For
example, associations which included Mediaset, Viacom, and the English Premier
League have made court cases adjacent to YouTube; they claimed that YouTube
does not stop the uploading of copyrighted material. Viacom insisted $1 billion
in compensation; the company alleged that they have indicated above 150,000
unauthorized videos of its material on YouTube with viewed by people for more
than 1.5 billion. YouTube answered it by saying that it "Goes far beyond
its legal obligations in assisting content owners in protecting their
works."For this case, YouTube might not able to avoid the case, since the
company has mentioned above that they cannot pay attention to each video as
well as we know that there are numbers of videos which uploaded in YouTube.
1.
Failure
to Comply with Community Norms and Social Values
Example case happened in
2017 which associated with several controversies related to child safety.
During Q2, the owners of popular channel DaddyOFive, which presented how
they were acting "pranks" on their kids, were charged with child abuse. Their videos were ultimately removed, and two of their kids were detached from their supervision. YouTube
could avoid this case if the company would filter which videos that could be
view and uploaded in its server before they get negative criticisms.
How we can learn from it?
Looking at above mentioned
risks as well as failures, we can learn that even a huge platform like YouTube
can face lot of risks as well as failures, if things are not done properly. We
can learn that going for everything is not the way to handle procedures; rather
you have to keep an eye on standards and values, which are considered
important. The companies can ignore the social values and community rules to do
their business. They have to be watchdog of their business in so many ways. We
have learnt that even an online giant like YouTube is facing so many risks and
they have to avoid these risks through a proper strategy so that they may not
face any failures in the future. The business needs to act responsibly and
safeguarding the rights of its clients and users, so that things can move in
right direction.
