Report on Teaching Philosophy: Progressive Approach

Category: Education Paper Type: Report Writing Reference: MLA Words: 500

Teaching is a very noble and a cosmic profession.  There are many different techniques of teaching the pupils.  The main types are Radical, progressive and conservative.  Radical  and conservative  being  the   extremes  have  not  been  as  much  fruitful  as progressive  approach.  It doesn’t  mean  that  these  techniques  are  not  beneficial  however  progressive  approach  being  in  moderation  tends  to be  the   most  effective  one.  Progressive  teaching  philosophy  not  only  makes  learning  easier  and  fun but  it  also  makes  teacher  more  creative  critical  thinker.  This  helps  teachers  enhancing  the  problem  solving  skills  and  creativity  in  the  students.  Progressive  approach  is much  more  evolving  because  it  changes  with  the  times.  It  makes  teachers  as  well  as  students  to  develop  naturally  with  ever  changing  times.  More  freedom  means  more  creativity  which  leads  to  more  progress  and  excellence.  Progressivism creates motivating mindset among the students.  When  the  students  try  to  give  their  100%  in  the  class  it  also  motivates  the  teacher  to  make  more  effort  and  educate  his  pupils.  Progressivism approach makes teacher a teacher and not a master.  It  makes  teacher  to  be  more  like  a  guide  for  his  pupil.  Rather than creating a slave kind of mind set.  It makes teacher student relationship much   more friendly and progressive.  Progressive  approach  helps  students  to  develop   and  flourish  not  only  in  the  studies  but  also  helps  them  in  daily  course  of  life.  This  approach  helps  student  to  go  for  more  than  one  solution  of  the  problem.  They  try  to be  much  more  practical  In  their  studies  and  their  everyday  life.  Progressivism  makes  student  more  visionary  which  will  made  them  find  them  find  new  ways  and  new  worlds.  It  makes  the  student  to  think  of  more  opportunities  rather   sitting  with  closed  minds.  They  are  made  to  think  of  opportunities  in  every problem  they  are  facing.  In experimentalism  the  students  are  more   likely  to  learn  through  experimenting  things  rather  than  mere  bookish  know (Friere, 1982)ledge.  Books only guides students what to do?  But  by  experimenting  things  they  learn  how  it  is  done.  Moreover   the  knowledge  acquired  through  experimenting  things  is  expected  to last  more  than  mere  reading  from  the  text  books. Mere Learning from books is relatively a tedious thing than then experimenting things.  Because  books  represent  ideal  case  scenario  it  doesn’t  teach  students  what  could  have  gone  wrong. However by  experimenting  we  learn  what  makes  the  thing  not  working.  The  teacher  shares  the  problem  and  ask  his  pupil  to  give  their  own  hypothesis  for  the  solution  of  the  problem.  This  activity  will  make   students   to  sort  out  multiple  ways  for  the  solution  of  the  problem.  It  will  not  only  increase  the  knowledge  of  the  pupil  but  also  make  the  teachers  find  new  ways  to  teach  a  problem.  Progressivism  makes  students  to  be  more  action  taking  rather  than  just  reading  from  the  books.  No doubt  book  is  the  first  brick in  the  building  of  knowledge  but  if  the  student  is  just  reading  from  the  books  and  not  doing  what  the  books  are  teaching  them  then  books  knowledge  because  knowledge  is  something  that  is  applied  or  shown  from  the  character  and  only  in  the  mind  of  someone.  The  benefits  of  this  approach  is  that  it  makes  students  more  participating  in  the  class.  They  will  attend  their  classes  with  a  receptive  mind  rather  the  sitting  with  open  eyes  and  closed  minds.  This approach will create questioning mind among the students.  This approach of teaching is quite beneficial for the students.  This  will  create  problem  solving  mind  set  which  will make  them  more  efficient  and  productive. Studying  the   For  me  the  progressive  approach  of  teaching  is  by  far  the  most  beneficial  approach  of teaching  philosophy.
