In
order to enhance the efficiency, performance, effectiveness, and overall
revenue of the organization, it is essential that the employees possess
relevant skills & knowledge which are required in the organization. The organization
becomes successful on the basis employees and their skills. If the employees
are not going to perform their work efficiently, then the goal of becoming a
major multinational corporation would only remain a dream. For making this
dream a reality, the organization will have to invest time & money on its employees
so that in return, they can boost the operations of the company with their
exceptional performance.
The
organizations of the 21st century implement various methods or
techniques for improving the skills of their employees. Sometimes they hold seminars/
workshops, and sometimes they hold meetings in which the top management of the
corporation provides information to the new staff members. The employees who
gain relevant experience in their respective field gain a significant amount of
skills & knowledge, however, the newcomers do need to learn a lot of things
so that they can perform their duties efficiently. That is why many
corporations provide coaching and mentoring to the new staff members’ so that
their knowledge and skills can be enhanced.
For
mentoring or coaching the new staff members Servant leadership model proposed
by the Robert K. Greenleaf would be a rational approach. According to a servant
leadership approach, the leader considers himself a servant first and have a natural
feeling for serving other individuals. With this approach, the new staff members
who are going to be recruited by the organization are going to be treated with
extra care. The traditional leadership approaches do not provide this much
level of care to the newly recruited employees. The servant leaders make sure
that all the needs of the employees get fulfilled.
With
the servant leadership model, the organizations can better understand what
their employees are looking for and how they can be transformed into a
professional. In traditional approaches, the leaders are the one whom the
authority and they lead from the top of the pyramid. However, in the servant
leadership approach, the leader shares the power with employees and give them
the autonomy to make decisions and work freely at the workplace. With employee
empowerment, not only the employees’ level of motivation increases, but also
the employees realize their significances in the organization. in short with servant
leadership approach employees get more opportunities to learn than traditional
approaches.
Many
organizations today are providing autonomy to their employees because they know
that through this, employees can interact more freely with the management. With
a servant leadership approach, the leaders understand the employees more deeply
and enhance their those skills which need more improvement. With a servant
leadership approach, the employees are given responsibilities so that they can
learn new things. The servant leaders allow their employees to take part in the
decision making the process from which unique or creative ideas are generated,
which ultimately help the organization to boost its performance and
profitability.
It
is evident that when the employees learn new skills, their performance
increases, which ultimately help the organization to boost its efficiency. When
employees are going to work with accuracy than not only the business will
experience an increase in profit, but also it will get the opportunity to
expand the business. In short, when employees are going to work well, it will
have an impact on the performance of the organization. It has been seen that
the traditional leadership approaches do not provide the level of freedom and
learning opportunities which the servant leadership approach provides to the
employees.
The
servant leadership approach provides many benefits to the corporation. The
first major benefit is that it allows the organization to create a strong
organizational culture where employees are allowed to make the decisions, and
they are given the responsibilities to handle different tasks. The corporations
where the employees are not allowed to take part in the decision-making process
have weak cultures. With the servant leadership model, the work environment of
the organization does not get disturbed because the concerns of the employees
are addressed by the top management on time. Whenever any employee experience
any issue, it has the facility to directly contact the top management so that
it can provide the solution to the problem.
When
employees are going to realize that the organization management is investing a significant
amount of time and money on them, then they will definitely try to work hard
for the benefit of the corporation. It means that with servant leadership, the
employees can be made loyal to the organization, and the organization can gain
their trust. The motivation level of the employees will increase when they are
going to be given responsibilities. When motivation increases the performance
of the employees also increases as a result.
Training/coaching
the employees is important because if employees are not going to be trained
than the company’s goal to become a major organization cannot be fulfilled.
Sometimes the training is required because new staff members are untrained and
they did not know how to perform various activities of the business. However,
sometimes the market trends change due to which organization would have to
change their technology or current businesses processes. Even the experienced employees,
in some cases, have to be given coaching &b training because they do not have
the idea about the latest technology and processes.
If
all the above discussion is summarized than it can be said that the
organizations should definitely utilize Robert Greenleaf’s servant leadership
approach because through this, the employees can learn a lot more than
traditional settings. With this approach, the organization can retain talented employees
in the organization for a longer period of time. However, only the time will
tell regarding the people who are served by the servant leader. The behavior of
the employees cannot be 100% predicted; therefore, only the time would tell how
much the employee's performance has improved after using a servant leadership
model.
