The Utopians have very different
view of the world as compared to common human beings. They don’t see any value
in materialistic things rather they value nature and humans more than anything.
As it is showed in the book by saying that “They
are amazed at the foolishness of any man who considers himself a nobler fellow
because he wears clothing of specially fine wool” (p.85). It shows that
Utopian don’t value such things like any fine wool, gold or jewels as it was
further said that when a sheep would wear such fine wool, it will not change
and still remain a sheep.
On the other hand, when moral
philosophy of Utopians is analyzed, it seems to be very much equal to the
normal philosophy of human beings. Their idea of happiness is associated with
the good virtues. As it is said in the book at one point that “They inquire into the nature of the good,
distinguishing goods of the body from goods of the mind and external goods” (p.86).
It means that Utopians have a philosophy that mind and body have different
kinds of goods, and these separate goods come with separate happiness for both.
They have a idea that pleasure is something, which is important for the human
happiness, and this pleasure can from anything like from body or mind.
Moreover, the Utopians ideas are
very much based on religious principles, which come with their own understanding
of the world. They believe that after this life, the humans will have another
life given by the God, as it is explained in the book that “the soul of man is immortal, and by God’s goodness born for happiness;
that after this life, rewards are appointed for our virtues and good deeds,
punishment for our sins”(p.87). It means that they believe for a world hereafter,
where human beings will get reward for good deeds, and will be punished for
their wrong doings and sins. So, human being should believe in doing good deeds
and try to find happiness in good and honest pleasure.
