It was made necessary to study
the area of complication and PM separately due to the lack of studies available
on handling complicated projects. Standards of project management have been
prevalent for more than forty years. With the establishment of standards,
project managers didn’t have the assistance of computers and the whole world
was not connected globally via the internet. Projects, in the past, had
different impacts and requirements and those requirements formed the basis of
standards. In addition to it, projects were created on the basis of the
immediate and internal environment while lacking an international perspective.
And they focused more on internal influences rather than external influences.
The issues of an interlinked
world are usually referred to as complicated. It is shown by literature that
the absence of information regarding complication enablers causes management to
be confused and projects to be complicated. Complication, in the literature, is
explained from a general point of view and is also not focused on PM.
How is it possible for a
non-standardizable complication to fit into project management which is
standardizable management? Both are significant to be investigated.
At present, projects are more
challenging and ambiguous in comparison with projects during the past years.
Different facts like turnover must be recognized and projects must be forced to
be more efficient. A result is more effective utilization of resources and
decrease in the duration through task parallelization.
Ever since project management
has been introduced, knowledge in the field has only developed. Some other
scientific and technical areas including materials, machinery, and IT have also
developed. The project might be influenced by them. Existing knowledge should
be incorporated and implemented in the project. This is a management task.
Management faces a challenge of keeping knowledge in projects updated with the
newest innovations. An end doesn’t come for this process and it is consistent.
For instance, an aircraft
wing’s development is selected. In the start of the twentieth century, the wing
was quite simple and made up of wood. Principally, streaming affecting flaps
were developed; different shapes were also discovered. At present, wing is a
complex part of aircraft. It has a certain aerodynamic form which fits
aircraft. Different materials are utilized such as carbon, aluminium, and
plastics for increasing stability and reducing weight. In addition, further
procedures of handling are important for applying them together. It increases
complication in products and projects.
This scientific information
must be brought together. This is a management task. The present methodology of
project management might not serve to satisfy the present necessities. Are
current standards considering complications effectively?
The top aim of PM is the
predictability of the results of projects and reliable reproducibility of
different projects. An increment in complication restricts reliable project
planning. The current status of complications should be consistently considered
by management. Management must be checked and supplemented with extra tools for
identifying and overcoming complications if necessary.
This study is actually carried
out with the aim of combining standardized PM with a non-standardizable
complication for arriving at a sensible decision.
