It can be seen that this
interview is qualitative research because in this method different interviews
are taken from different members for understanding the main point of view of
the subject (Kvale&Brinkmann, 2009). Through this, the researchers are able
to learn about the attitude of the interviewer in detail and he can get
familiar with many new things that are not the part of the research
(Kvale&Brinkmann, 2009).
The most important part of the
narrative interview is the context of experience. This means that if your
experience is high then you are able to guide the interview with perfection.
For a narrative interview, it is necessary that open questions are prepared
properly and can be answered properly by the interviewer. (H. Mayer, 2004). In
this research guided interview is applied.
The best advantage of the
prepared question in the guided interview is that interviewer is able to answer
each and every question with perfection and avoid overlooking. Moreover, it
will also ensure comparability between the different views of the research. The
interviewer will discuss the same question in detail and through this, it will
become extremely easy for the researcher to evaluate main results (H. Mayer,
2004).
For selecting the scope for
interviews, it is more important for the researcher to evaluate the main time
of the interview. It is noted that resources are extremely important primary
limiting factors for handling a large number of interviews (H. Mayer, 2004).
For completing this research, 5 most experienced project management
professionals were interviewed according to the resources. Those are senior
project manager form different industries in Saudi Arabia. All are PMP
certified
It can be seen that this
research interview is conducted in seven important phases (Kvale&Brinkmann,
2009): these phases are missing designing interview verifying, transcribing
analysis, and reporting. H. Mayer (2004) has recommended at least three phases
of development that include the performance of the interview, development of
the guideline, and its evaluation. Kvale and Brinkmann (2009), both of them
have strong and valuable similarities in their work regarding the interview
they have explained in detail about the execution of the research interview. It
is noted that for interviewing in a proper way research is required. In the
"missing", there are some research questions that are started with
why, how, and what. Then after this in designing, there is complete information
about how to perform the required interview. It will help to provide the main
point that is regarding the interview like time, resources, and also some
points that are related to the quality (Kvale&Brinkmann, 2009).
Authors are involved in discussing
a similar topic regarding the development of a guideline for the perfect
research interview. The third phase of Kvale and Brinkmann (2009) relates to H.
Mayer's (2004) second phase. All of these authors are involved in discussing
the main point that is about conducting the main interview. After the
completion of the main interview, post-interview is performed in a proper way.
Then after this, proper transcription analysis, reporting, and verification are
performed for gathering the data in a proper way for conducting research
(Kvale&Brinkmann, 2009). H. Mayer (2004) was involved in combining all
elements into a single phase evaluation.
This interview is added
in-depth understanding after exploring the practical experience of the main
participants. All of these participants are selected from a different
population of certified PMI project managers located in Saudi Arabia.
All of these participants are
involved in sharing similar characteristic regarding the employment of project
management, PMI certification, PMI membership, and long term experience in the
field of project management.
Then after this qualitative
data after conducting the interview is collected and is compared in the
research process. This approach is also called as the phenomenological approach,
and it means the ability to understand the main topic from the required
knowledge (Lindgren & Kehoe, 1981).
For conducting the interview,
the time was extremely limited and that was about only 120 minutes or extra 20
minutes for the extra question discussion. This interview must follow all of
these steps.
Opening: The starting of the
interview must be from welcoming the main participant by introducing him.
Introduction: The introduction of the
research was given in detail and this isn't more than 5 minutes. In this time,
the participant must have to introduce their research topic in detail. This is
because it's the general purpose of the interview.
Questions: Then after this the main
research, the question were asked by the researcher in detail and it is one of
the major steps of interviewing.
Closing: In the last 5 minutes, the
researcher has to give a proper overview of the research in detail by
discussing the main outcomes.
Also, the interviewer has to
give a short explanation about the given research topic because through this,
it will become easy for the researcher to examine his point (R. Krueger &
Casey, 2009).
