The forming phase is defined by Tuckman as follow:
"Initially, groups seem to concern themselves with an orientation
obtained through testing. This serves to determine the limitations of both task
and interpersonal behaviors. In the interpersonal world, coincident with
testing is actually the establishment of different dependency relations with
pre-existing standards, group members, or leaders. It might be stated that
dependence, testing, and orientation constitute forming's group process"
(Tuckman, 2001, p. 78).
The phase of forming is just where the members of the team have the
first contract and uncertainty often characterizes it. Members of the team have
to be acquainted with each other. The project manager, in the phase of forming,
should obtain self-awareness while discovering that an issue is present. She of
her has to be aware of all complications and achieve an understanding of the
needing support for overcoming the issue. Actually, this phase meets its end
when the manager of a project has determined the issue and predict that
complication might be the root. A manager can carry it out by discussing with
the team. Then, in the phase of storming, complications are analyzed".
