Oman’s civil aviation system has
been good enough to cope up with any recent threats and challenges incurred by
civil aviation around the world. The government has been instrumental for
developing Oman’s civil aviation system by identifying the recent needs and
adopting programs which are necessary to get a better strategic direction. The
civil aviation system of Oman has been on the move since 2012 after its revamp
into PACA, and journey of success continues. That’s why Oman has been able to
lead the way in the development of the civil aviation system in the Arab world,
where other powerful Middle East countries are present like Saudi Arabia. But
its strategic approach of Oman to enhance its capabilities of civil aviation
authority to comply with standards advised by International Civil Aviation
Organization (ICAO) so that they can be renowned as one of the best in the
world.
Oman has understood the importance
of developing new airports across the country to stay ahead in the competition.
Moreover, they have understood that if they want to compete well in the aviation
industry and develop good revenues from aviation and airlines system, then they
have to come up with new routes and allow more international airlines to enter
into Oman. This awareness from Oman has been influential in so many ways
because they are leading the competition in this regard. The country is
allowing more routes and destinations for different airlines. In 2018, SalamAir
from Oman was allowed to have more routes than ever before. The new routes for SalamAir
were approved by the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA). The airline
company was allowed to have three flights between Abu Dhabi and Salalah, five
flights between Kuwait and Muscat, and four flights between Oman and Kathmandu.
It is just one example to show that how Oman's civil aviation authority is
moving in the right direction by facilitating the aviation industry's business (Muscat Media Group, 2018)
As mentioned above that Oman has
been great in taking various initiatives in developing great civil aviation
system, which enhances its capacity and capability to work on international
standards. One of the moves was to develop new airports across the country as
per needs and demands. One of the most significant projects in this strategy
was the development of Muscat International Airport. This new Muscat Airport
was replaced with the old one, which was less in capacity and efficiency as compared
to this new airport. Such projects are great for Oman's development of civil
aviation initiatives because such project will keep them ahead in the
competition with other countries in the Middle East region. The first flight
from the new Muscat Airport was flown in March 2018, which marked the success
and great journey of civil aviation system of Oman (TIMES OF OMAN, 2018)
