The competitive nature of the business environment and
the increasing number of rivals in the market force companies to create
competitive advantages over the competitors. To do so, each business has to
keep its workforce satisfied, committed and efficient. One of the most
important elements on achieving employees’ efficiency is optimizing use of
his/her time. Flexibility is the understanding of the factors that enhance
individual flexibility in addition to the flexible society in particular
disciplines (Heath field, 2019). The aim of this research is to explore
the effects of time flexibility in Oman’s Diwan of Royal Court. The Diwan has
21 units and 25 directorates. It will provide a critical review of the
practices used and finding the possible solutions. Studying the effects of time
flexibility in the Omani context will be useful in order to reduce job-related
stress and motivate the workforce. The most widely recognized adaptable program
amid to minimized seven day stretch of work in eight hours /day work in weekly.
Through previous studies, it is found officers does not support fans of the
work ethic, perhaps for some reasons due to the employees who thrive in a desk
environment find it difficult to work when colleagues do not keep the same
schedule or relationships with friends or neighbour that they are thinking not
to work. There is no clear distinction between work and home (U.S. Merit System
Production Board,1993).
Many people think that flexible working hours are
necessary for the company and for the employees because they allow the
employees to meet their social role and responsibilities towards their families
and their personal life. This keeps them motivated and committed to the
organization which results in an increase in the performance in general. In
addition, it reduces absenteeism among the employees (Belwal and
Belwal, 2014).
However,
other officer do not believe in this point of view because they thought that
flexibility in the timing delay the work and it may cause inability to meet the
deadlines since the employees do not stick to their positions and tasks as they
are normally supposed to do. In addition, if some workers are allowed to leave
the work before the legal timing, many others will be demotivated and do not perform.
It is much better to keep the standard working time rather than flexible regime
since the flexible regime is uncontrollable and can lead to disorder. My research highlights the
assessment and impact of flexible time on the efficiency of work in the Diwan
of Royal Court from the point of view of staffs from various levels, categories
and nature of work.
