The Confucius was a politician and philosopher from
China, who lived during the period of 551–479 BC. He introduced a political
philosophy named as Confucianism, which was quite different from other
political philosophies. He came up with an idea of government, where law and
punishment was not taken as a part of authority, rather government was supposed
to be run on some moral principles. The basic idea of his philosophy was to
govern people through the essence of moral example, persuasion and education. This
idea believed in a mode of governance where social relationships are based on
correctness, sincerity and justice. The overall idea looks great to be
followed, but when it is analyzed in the context of real world situations, it
does not as applicable as it looks to be. It is hard for any government to
manage society without any particular law and a certain criteria of punishment,
as it is difficult to force people that they must follow values and principles
based on morality. It is true that ethics and morality should be cornerstone of
basis of a society, but one cannot run a society only with these ideal rules,
rather law and its implementation is also important to conduct the behavior of
people living in a society. There are many elements of Confucius philosophy,
which can be made part of a government role to manage its conduct, but its full
application is also almost impossible.
This paper will discuss that Confucius philosophy is very much relevant to
better role of government in different ways, so paper will determine important
elements of Confucianism, and it will be proved that various aspects of this
philosophy can be integrated in ascertaining a better role of government in any
given society.
