The teaching is a profession,
which comes with so much dynamics and inspirational attributes. A teacher is
someone, who is responsible to help his/her students in acquiring knowledge as
well as values & competencies. A teacher can be a role model for his/her students
because there are various aspects associated with his/her teaching. Like, a
teacher does not only educate, but actually can inspire his/her students in so
many ways. Teaching is a profession equipped with so much variety that when
teacher educates his/her students and help them in learning; in this process,
teacher himself learns so many new things on regular basis (M. K. Smith 2018). The role models can be an important
inspiration for anyone to pursue his/her dreams and ambitions and great thing about
teaching is that it is a profession, which inspires others to chase their
dreams and do well in their lives. The definition of the teaching is that “Teaching is the process of attending to
people’s needs, experiences and feelings, and intervening so that they learn
particular things, and go beyond the given” (M. Smith 2018). It is important
to mention here that pedagogical choices made by any teacher is based on the philosophy
of teaching, which he/she believes in, and then act upon accordingly.
Reasons makes you become a Teacher on What philosophical/theoretical
reasons justify your pedagogical choices
For every teacher, there must be
few reasons that why he/she joined the profession of teaching. So, there can be
several reasons that a person becomes a teacher. For me, teaching is such a
great profession, which can transform and change the lives of others. So, my
reason to become a teacher is love as well as passion that I have for teaching.
I have this love & passion, because teaching is such an inspirational field
with so much diversity and variety.
3 Ideas of Pedagogical Choices on What philosophical/theoretical
reasons justify your pedagogical choices
There are three different
theories, which are actually the basis of my pedagogical choices. The first theory
in this regard is Constructivism. As per this concept, knowledge is something,
which is constructed by people and they use their experiences to construct this
knowledge (thirteen.org 2004). It means that in a constructive class
room setting, teacher should allow students to construct their knowledge by
actively participating in every class activity. This idea is very important in
my views because I strongly believe that students should be given every chance
to learn things on their own experiences, as it would allow them to learning
more and grow as an individual.
The second pedagogical choice is
based on the theory of behaviorism. It is a learning theory, which says that conditioning
is something, which helps people to acquire different behaviors. It means that
people learn in their environment and condition while interacting with others (Cherry 2018). This concept can be
important in any learning environment especially in classroom. I believe that behaviorism
should be applied positively in the class room by developing an environment,
which fosters knowledge and learning. The students can learn a lot when their environments
would allow them to get more knowledge by interacting with each other. I would
like to develop a class room which encourages learning behaviors, and helping
each other to grow well in a given environment.
Third pedagogical choice for my
pedagogy is Cognitivism. This concept focuses on the mental processes that how
individuals think, learn, perceive, remember as well as solve problems in their
given settings (Flippen 2014). As a teacher, it is my responsibility
that I allow my students to learn and remember knowledge as much as possible,
so that they can later use this knowledge in their lives. That’s why Cognitivism
remains to be an important concept in my mind. It can affect student’s learning
abilities in so many ways, like a teacher can use it in the classroom. The best
example could be teacher asking questions from his/her students so that they
can reorganize their memorized knowledge and refine their thinking processes to
keep learning.
Conclusion on What philosophical/theoretical reasons justify your
pedagogical choices
It can be concluded that teaching
is a great and inspirational profession, which allows teachers to become role
models and allow their students to learn from their pedagogical choices. It is
also a fact to remember that teachers can have different pedagogical choices and
philosophy of teaching on their own choice and personality, and I have chosen
behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism as three basic pedagogy strategies
for teaching. These three choices will define my teaching pedagogy that how I
want my students to learn in given circumstances.
