The first button tells the lift you want to go to the basement car park, the middle button tells it you wish to go up, and the bottom button that you wish to go down. There are no other buttons or displays etc. once the lift arrives; the doors open automatically. explain the cognitive walkthrough method, illustrating your answer by applying it to this design for the task of calling the lift to go from the lobby to the 10th floor, for a new guest who has not been to the hotel before.

Ans. Explanation: Cognitive walk through is a method of one step one time. It means the set of tasks are already inbuilt in the process and during the task procedure of each step evaluator ask different set of questions according to user behavior which was expected in normal routine. In other words, a set of questions and a series of tasks performed by evaluators according to user point of view. It provides support for learn ability for all those users who are new or infrequent for the system.

Illustration: By applying this method on the design of lift. Users have to give answer of all questions asked by evaluator in the system of lift. For new person who come first time in the hotel and want to reach at 10th floor, he has to use the lift and the cognitive system of lift ask question about its destination. The cognitive system of lift allows user to learn the system of lift in most understandable way.  There are different methods to resolve the issues faced during the operation of lift. If the buttons were provided with text besides the button the user will be able to use it. The outstanding system of cognitive walkthrough increases the learnability of users. The interactive system can be employed for the lift to make the system understandable for the new users. The modified cognitive walkthrough enforces the extensive system to accomplish the designed facilities for the users.

No, the user will not know what to do because it only buttons are displayed with text next to it.

No, user will not see how to do it because it does not include instructions how to do it such as click button to go down and up.

3.      Will users understand from feedback that the action was correct or not?

The first button “basement car park” it not clear as the button was pressed or not and user could not find itself to click or not.

 b)     The iOS operating system as used on the iPhone includes two main top-level interaction styles for starting and using apps: a) tapping on an icon on the home screen and b) speaking a command to the Siri assistant. Discuss what metaphors these two styles are based on and discuss whether and how these metaphors make the system easy to use.

a.      The home button metaphors are useful as it allows always going back to home screen from every other part of application. It very convenient as user able to navigate to home screen.

b.      The Siri assistant metaphors are speech recognizer instead having to use touch screen. It makes easier because allow control by speech and have hands free.

The I phone operating system allow users to get easy access to all the features and different metaphors are used by system that support better understanding of users and provide easy to use all the devices and their easy usage. For home screen the quick access metaphor is used that help user to reached on the main page whatever the other file or document going to run. Because easy access on home screen is very much important for all type of users as per their devices and home screen include all the main and basic files or documents that user want to use. Siri assistance use English language metaphor that provides better all the information related to vocabulary and all information to Siri. So that when user asks Siri with the help of speech recognition, Siri find out all the required information that user want without any touch or typing on screen.

c)      Compare and contrast Houde and Hill’s (1997) role and look and feel prototypes.

 Ans. Prototype model of House and hills explain three type of prototypes; role, implementation and look and feel. Role prototype include all those models that what the design is going to describe and explore for better usage and enhance its usage for the future. In other words, role prototype provides answer of all those questions that are related with the changes in the user’s life and its requirement. But on the other side, the look and feel prototype is also very important because they look and feel future designs alternatives and surprisingly explore and describe them in the straight manner. In other word, this prototype focus on the sensory experience related to user and its life aspects. So, both prototypes have their own specialties and usage for the better results for user.

These two-prototype help Siri to understand the requirement of the user and then provide better solution for the users. Better describing and exploring new and improve ideas and methods are very mush helpful for the users. Siri interface must kept all the major information and detail information that required by the user and on the demand of user by using role prototype better answer going finding out and with look and feel prototype accurate and better solution or answer must be search out that provide better information to all its users. Basically, prototypes are providing better designing and understanding to interface so they perform in their best position and provide more facilities to their users.
