The disruptive technology refers to the introduction of the technology
that develops a quite new market and introduce new value network. Disruptive
technology is usually based on the disruptive innovation in the products and
industry. In accordance to the research the disruptive technology changes the
fortune of the existing market by creating a new market of technology. To
elaborate the concept of disruptive technology we can say that the disruptive
technology is the introduction of the quite new idea that comes in the market
and suddenly displace an existing technology in the market (Cox, 2016). The 3D printer in
also considered as the disruptive technology in the world that has potential to
displace the old market.
Examples
of disruptive technology
There are several examples of the disruptive
technology. A few of these examples are mentioned below in the list:
Telephony
in communication
Pocket
calculators in computing hardware
Personal
computer in computing hardware
Floppy
disk in data storage
LED in
display

Printing as Disruptive Technology
The 3D printing is a disruptive technology as the introduction of the 3D
printing completely changed the market of the many other technologies in the
various field of the life. The 3D printing technology was introduced in 1984 by
the Charles Hull. In the beginning it was not as refined and efficient as it is
in the present age. However at the time of introduction it was based on the
complex process of changing the digital data in the 3 dimensional objects.
3D technology is now in use in the fields of medical, engineering and
the aerospace. Through the 3D printing technology now designing and developing
process of the products is totally changed. In the broader term 3D printing
technology is also known as the “Additive Manufacture”. By using the 3D
printing any object, a house, car, equipment or any object can be created in
the 3D form. By the introduction of the 3D technology now the world of
manufacturing is able to develop a prototype before the introduction of the new
product in the market.
The 3D printing is a disruptive technology that also covers the
qualities of the sustaining technology as it is a cost effective and quickly
working technology that can deliver a complete output/ product in the short
time duration. The time standing and cost effectiveness quality are also
encouraging the users to take advantages in the business and medical field by
developing objects through the use of 3D printing to get clear idea about the
weakness and strengths of the product in advance. for instance by using the 3D
printing in the automobile industry the designer can understand how the product
will look in real and what type of changes in the design can make the car more
attractive for the customer (Cox, 2016).
Example of Disruptive Technology:
The 3D printing is disruptive technology as it enable the medical field
to introduce a functional kidney or other functional organs for the human
being. Before this there was no other technology working for making an
artificial kidney. The functional kidney was introduced in 2002 by the wake
forest institute (Pitt.edu, 2018).
The 3D printing is the
disruptive technology as before the introduction of the 3D printing there was
no idea to create a digital object in the 3 dimensions. 3D printing also
supported the idea of world first 3D printed robotic aircraft. Because of the
3D printing Kor Ecologic created the first printed car in 2012. The 3D printing
supported the prosthetic Jaw, DIY co-creation service and the printing in the
gold and silver.
Conclusion of Disruptive Technology
The 3D printing is a disruptive technology has it created a new market
and displace the old markets. The 3D printing not only provide high quality and
cost effective services but also enable the medical scientists, engineers and
businessman to bring innovation in their filed. Through the use of 3D printing
now 3 dimensional objects like aircraft, cars, houses and human organs can be
created that functions just similar to the original object. Thus we can say
that 3D technology is the best disruptive technology that changed the way of
life and influenced the world in the positive way.
