Task 2
(A)
Leadership
is not just a word but a big responsibility. Leadership doesn’t only means to
sit on a post and give orders without thinking about the ordinary people or the
employees. Leaders only become successful when they take care of the people who
are around them and treat them as they want themselves to be treated. What I
have learnt from the whole case study that a leader should not become selfish
while taking decisions and he or she should be wise enough before taking any of
the big step. If any of the action is being done than he or she should know
about its pros and cons and should also know that how it should get managed.
Leader should know how to communicate with others and how to convince others
through words without just thinking about own personality. Decision making
compatibilities should be good enough only then leader can become successful.
He or she should act as a role model for others around them or working under
them through their positive behavior. The case study has broadened my horizon
of approach that not every decision that falls within the legal framework is a
decision to progress with. There must be other consideration when taking a
decision. An ethical approach towards decision making helps the leader grow and
benefits the organization (Brown and
Treviño, 2006). Not only this but I have also learned that one should be
willing to take ownership of the job assigned unlike the project leader who
enjoyed the office and salary but felt he couldn’t do much.
(B)
What
I have learned will affect and greatly influence me when making a decision. I
will be willing to take feedback and head towards total quality management. My
decisions will be based on the democratic and visionary approach. The
healthcare industry or segment cannot afford a hap hazard or dictatorial
approach as it concerns the people at large (Vanlaere and Gastmans, 2007). Having said that it
doesn’t mean I won’t take any tough decisions. I will take decisions based on
the ethical framework and approach the matters in all fairness. A leader is not
dictated by the situations but he adapts the best strategy to steer out of the
situation to head towards betterment. My behavior will not be risk avert but visionary
in nature and adaptive to the situation. The ethical framework for decision
making will provide sense of direction to my decisions and the organization. As
a leader it is important to take in account the feelings of the employees and
how they see things. I would be more emphatic towards the employees and try to
take in their feedback. Before calling the shots I will put myself in their
shoes to see the far reaching effects of the decisions I am going to take. One
of the greatest effects on my behavior will be not just seeing the legal side
of the affairs of the organization but a clear cut ethical approach in decision
making for the benefit of all stakeholders (Wood, 2001). My motto will be to do good to bring about good in
the society and organization. I will be evolving the organization culture as
the leader.
