Ibrahim was a sales manager in an
industrial product company; he was designated as Deputy Manager so he can
effectively manage the products. He was told to manage products which he did
not have information about. A meeting was held in headquarters of all the
product managers. However, as represent in the case study that Ibrahim’s
Product Manager could not attend the meeting so Marketing Director John was
appointed to attend this meeting on his behalf. In the start of meeting John
introduced Ibrahim to VP Abdullah as a new member. When meeting began Abdullah
began to ask questions from every Product Manager about the products.
It is known that VP as a pushy
person so everyone came prepared for questions with proper information about
their products. Abdullah forgot that Ibrahim is new to his job and does not
know many products very well and questioned him the same way as every other
Product Manager. Ibrahim got confused and could not answer questions upon which
Abdullah embarrassed him in front of everybody, John knew that Abdullah has
forgotten about Ibrahim and he was confused between interrupting him and
talking him by the end of the meeting. John waited for meeting to get over;
when it was dismissed, he was left alone with VP who asked him about his
treatment with Ibrahim. John told Abdullah that he was very rough with Ibrahim
and he is new to his new job and does not know much. Abdullah realized his
mistake and Ibrahim was called out in VP’s office.
On his arrival, Abdullah
apologized to Ibrahim and told him he forgot that he is new and it is his job
is to correct Abdullah and John if they make any stupid decisions. He has
confidence in him and it is the reason Ibrahim is in head office now and he has
three month to know very well about all of his products. The conversation was
over with a brief handshake.

Healthy work environment on Human Resource Management
Yes, it was necessary for
Abdullah to apologize from Ibrahim despite of his position because it was his
fault that he forgot that Ibrahim is a new comer and he did not deserve to be
embarrassed in front of everyone. In order to maintain a healthy work
environment, the act was necessarily required.
I would have forgiven him just
like Ibrahim did because it was an honest mistake and a genuine apology.
Abdullah was correct when he said
Ibrahim is here to correct the stupid mistake of his boss and Abdullah because
they are all human and everyone can mistake and one should tell the other if he
is doing something wrong.
Yes, I would employ Abdullah in
my company because he is committed to his job and does whatever it takes to get
work done; he keeps his employees motivated and criticizes them when they are
wrong. People like him are needed for progress of the company.
No, John did not make a mistake;
it was wise to wait till the meeting was over.
As an HR person, I believe
attitude of Abdullah is needed to be corrected because bullying is not
justified on any platform, in any way. There is fine line between criticizing
employees and keep them motivated and bullying.
I would be a little nervous in
the start but I would definitely want to have a boss like Abdullah/ John.

The problem was clearly a
confusion and a mistake and upon realization Abdullah immediately apologized to
Ibrahim and encouraged him by telling him that he has confidence in him which
shows Abdullah is a great leader (except for him being a bully). It is
important for a person to have a healthy work environment, so a genuine apology
does not cost a thing.

It is okay to make mistakes what
matters the most is how you deal with the situation upon realizing your
mistakes.
One should not be too pushy or a
bully to get work done from his employees.
Treating employees equally
despite their rank is necessary.
One should be hard worker to earn
respect of his seniors via work and dedication to his job.
