If the intimate relationship
violence is to be considered then male participants would be the ones to mostly
commit the crime such as harassing and harming the female participant. There
are also some cases in which males were harmed by females rather than the other
way around. In such cases, females were the ones to commit the crime. However
the number of such cases is quite low. In patriarchal societies, the common
battering cases point toward men and women have no part as they are the
victims. Their subordination makes men powerful and they end up getting beaten.
In terms of physical power,
unfortunately, females are behind and that is what gives a powerful advantage
to males. Even if an intimate relationship is not initiated, this fact doesn’t
change because that is how females are but it doesn’t mean that males are
allowed to harm their counterparts and subject them through various forms of
traumas. In Hong Kong, the patriarchal system allows men to dominate and that
is what makes them commit the crime (Chan 2012).
Male should dominate women
Regardless of communities, male
dominance has been common in various forms. The most famous example is that a
male should be the head of family and not the women. Although, there is no
illness behind it but the residing meaning is still present. From a long time,
it has been believed that males are able to handle situations and problematic
affairs in a better way. That is why they are given the role of leadership and
there is nothing more to that. Even that concept is not present anymore because
of the developments. However in some patriarch societies, such a role is taken
deeper and it is implemented to other parts as well such as dominating in an
intimate relationship and excreting stress on females (Nicolson 2010).
Other than Hong Kong, many other
countries and even communities assure that males should be the head of family
while females should run the house. A female supports the male so that he can
shoulder the responsibility of house well. However, some take it as something
entirely different and morph it in such a way that can make it convenient for
them to harass females in an intimate relationship (Sirin Sung 2014).
