The Attendance
system is divided into two basic parts; the instructor side and the student
view. The difference is that how much authority each of the user has and how
the other can view. The system works in the basic manner and records
attendance. For attendance recording there are 4 variables which are P, L, A
and X. The meaning of the variables is:
P- Present
Absent
L- Late
X- Excused
Attendance is
marked accordance to the presence of the student and excused means that the
attendance for the day won’t count and would not be treated as absent. The
magic of the system is not in plain recording or marking of attendance but what
comes after and the value this MIS system adds to it. The attendance is
uploaded to individual student profile where it is linked with the grade book.
The student can view the attendance individually in the course.
There are 100
points for the attendance in the grade book and are automatically updated when
the attendance is entered. This will affect and view the real time grade to the
student which means instant results. This option however can be toggled so the
grades remain unaffected till final attendance. The service is extended to be
viewed on computer system such as mobile phone or tablets. Overall the system is easy to use and
maintains record with grades and performance. The attendance recording column
is automatically added once the course is added but however the instructor will
be required to turn on the settings by following the given instructions. The attendance is recorded automatically when
the student logs in.
What the system
does for the instructor and student is that it calculates the present and
absence ratio telling the student about their attendance and if they are or not
meeting the minimum requirement for the course. This saves times as manual
systems would require extensive mathematic calculations and operations if the
query rises taking a lot of time for a large number of student. The MIS system
has made it easy. The seminar for instructors for training them on the usage
and how to use the system will help instructors getting to properly use the
technology.
