Madonna's Tribute Content Analysis Report

One of the brightest stars of the music industry faded last week in the form of death of unrivaled Queen of soul, the one and only Aretha Franklin. She passed away after losing the battle against one of the deadliest diseases, the pancreatic cancer. All across the nation, people felt the loss and expressed their condolence and memories that they had with the legendary singer (Independent. co. uk, 2018). Madonna also delivered a speech of her personal experiences with the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. The social media criticism aroused due to the self-centered speech of Madonna and cultural appropriation was also discussed by analyzers. The things became worse due to brief video compilation in which she was expected to honor the late Aretha Franklin. In a nutshell, she made a speech entirely about herself and explaining how the music of Aretha Franklin helped her in reaching the top of the charts (Independent. co. uk, 2018).

The unit of my analysis is to identify key point Mentioned by Madonna in her tribute to the late Aretha Franklin that she delivered to 2018 MTV Video Music Awards. Madonna delivered a speech that was directly related to having felt about Aretha Franklin. She described her personal connection with the song "you make me feel like" Sang by Aretha Franklin in the first launch edition of Madonna. She illuminated the effect of inspiration and connected the queen of the soul with hard feelings while presenting the album on the award. This was her story, which was inspired and driven by the music and personality of Aretha Franklin.

After having the analysis of heart reviewed, I can express my confusion regarding the attempt of signer about traditional criticism and tribute. While having an analysis of her attribute I found some glitches in her reflection of words. Instead of talking about the life of Franklin as it was expected by the viewers and listeners, Madonna preferred to discuss her own personal journey towards becoming a singer; a journey which was inspired all the way by Aretha Franklin (Independent. co. uk, 2018). 

Initially, she said that Aretha Franklin changed the course of her life and dragged her from darkness towards the icon personality. While delivering The Tribute she mentioned about her story that how successfully the song of Aretha Franklin aided her in the audition. She decided to share the story of how suddenly she started singing the song of Aretha Franklin on the spot in the audition and how she became back dancer in "A French Disco Sensation". Madonna was also accused of the wrong appearance for the cultural appropriation of her outfit. The viewers dragged her on social media especially as a woman of color and not showing a proper process for the honoring of Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin (Independent. co. uk, 2018; Usatoday. com, 2018).

Results of Analysis of Madonna's Tribute

Madonna was expected to deliver tribute and to put lights on the personality traits of Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin in 2018 MTV Video Music Awards. Instead of discussing how she learned from Aretha Franklin, she picturized her personal experience of how she got success by singing the well-known song of Aretha Franklin. She discussed her struggle story, her dreams of becoming a professional dancer, and how she was accepted in the audition (Independent. co. uk, 2018). After discussing about the early career struggles of becoming a singer, Madonna revealed the role of Aretha Franklin in her career.

She discussed that she sang a song of Franklin ("You make me feel like") in a breakthrough audition. She shared a whole part of her journey and how she entered in the music industry and thanked Madonna to lead her on the way of success. The tone-deaf tribute steal back the spotlight of her intentions and depicted more reactions of audience (Usatoday. com, 2018).

She was asked to anecdote any career connection with Aretha Franklin but definitely, it was not completely related to her. She shared a part of the career journey and thanked Aretha for having inspiration for young talented followers. Unfortunately, all the context was judged quickly by the audience and get a short attention span.

After analyzing the whole situation and incident, I could add my opinion that regardless of whether it was or not the initial intention of Madonna to discuss her story instead of paying tribute to Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, the main consideration is that it was not an appropriate way to pay tribute to legendary soul in two minutes with the tinsel of award show and noise of viewers. The network of 2018 MTV Video Music Awards could have some argument about what was done a bit more related to the tribute of Aretha Franklin.

I can also say that we may give benefit of the doubt to Madonna as well because maybe she was there to pay tribute to Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, but she got carried away in the moment of grief and gratitude. Maybe, her thoughts were scattered to talk about a legend and an inspiration of her music journey that she could not got her words together in a proper manner to pay a great tribute. But still, it was certainly wrong the way Madonna paid her tribute. She had enough stage appearances and faced so many audiences, so there was no point to get carried away. So, it can be said that she should have prepared a speech to pay a proper tribute to her music inspiration, Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin.
