Leadership discussion

Ethics is a variable term and everyone has its own definition for it. A cancer research was conducted in Jordan which involved children as subjects of research and their DNA and genetic structure was to be observed to check out the chances of risk in them. The issue of children’s right is extended and people do not think whether it is ethically correct to provide complete information of a child’s wellbeing. The issue is the cultural perspective from Middle East on ethics about involving children for cancer research. Although the institute ensured confidentiality but several controversies have already arisen in concern with involvement of children in research as it can exploit them. (DH 2008)

For research the participation was voluntary, consent was signed, there was assurance of complete confidentiality and anonymity and no harm was caused to children. Children are involved in research because they are highly responsive and give immediate feedback. If I were at place of the researchers of the institute and I had to lead the project. First of all, I would have checked that is it necessary to involve children? If yes then I would have made sure that they are not exploited or affected in any way. No such step would be involved which can affect the integrity, confidence and privacy of the children as many children of the region come from Islamic background which tends to be strict about such purposes. I would have assured their families that our project mean no harm to child or his family.
