General Electric was winning all across the world despite facing tough
competition in the market. His management style is honest and has been thought
of as a good standard in business. Highlights of his style are focusing on
people, teamwork and profits. Welch retired as the company’s CEO and chairman
in 2001, and has been touring different countries and giving talks all around
the world. His audience engages with him on a number of topics and he likes
their motivation to get good guidance, laying out the answers to tough
questions. Welch wants to interact with people at every level of organization,
in all sorts of companies, facilitating everyone from line workers to MBAs to
their managers to CEOs, and wants to help everyone who strives for success. This
paper is a research proposal about the winning philosophies of the Jack Welch
and how it is different from other literature and previous studies regarding
business, management and winning. The research would be based on secondary
research through previous literature and journals (Welch &
Welch, 2013 ).
Welch wrote a book entitled
Winning, starting it off with an introductory part ‘Underneath It All’,
describing his business philosophy. He looks into the importance of different
values and traits necessary for success. The theme of the book is about the
reality of work, and is divided into three parts. The first section deals with the company and all its
aspects from its leaders to ensuring organic change. The second part deals with
a company’s relation with the exterior world, focusing on markets and
competition, merters , and Six Sigma. The final section deals with managing
your own career. It is about finding the right job to ensuring a good work-life
balance. Welch’s mindset could be described as optimistic, and has a sense of
perfection and zeal. The book has Welch’s own incidents, as well as deep and
original thoughts and advice on many work related problems. (Welch & Welch, 2013 ).
