It is important for manufacturing
firms that operations management is most important tool to determine their
success or failure. It is critical that how manufacturing firms handle their
business administration with some set rules and procedures of operations
management. Before making any considerable procedures, the firms have to understand
that what operations management is. It is a process of administering their
manufacturing business to make sure that their firm is achieving efficiency
with a highest level. The actual context of operations management is linked
with the process of manufacturing and production. The planning as well as
supervision done to organize production process so that production process is
highly efficient; this is the main purpose and core belief of operations
management process. In this overall process, the business administration is
handled like handling the raw material along with labor and any other relevant
terms so that products are produced with less error and process runes smoothly from
start to end (Mahadevan 2010)
The manufacturing firms have to
look for strategies and planning to adopt in their operations management
process so that they can get more out of it, and overall process is as
efficient as possible with best possible results. For this purpose, the
manufacturing process should be fast, targeted and eliminate any wastes of
resources and time. Keeping this important need in view, a manufacturing
process was introduced with the name of Just in Time (JIT). JIT was first
introduced in 1970s by the Japanese manufacturing business and Toyota was the
first major example to apply JIT in their manufacturing and production process (Phogat 2013).
As per JIT concept, the
manufacturing firm should ensure that any kind of manufacturing waste is eliminated
from their manufacturing process, and appropriate quantity of resources &
raw material is used to develop right amount of products, which are needed in
certain amount of time. So, the idea is very simple to understand that
producing products with required raw material quantity, eliminating any waste
and not producing products without demand. It is important for manufacturing
firms to integrate JIT manufacturing system in their production process if they
are having any waste and producing products more than the demanded quantity. The
JIT will help firms to remain efficient and highly productive (Cheng and Podolsky 1996). In this paper, the
next part will critically analyze as well as summarize three research articles
to see that how JIT has been implemented by different firms and what they
gained by doing so. The overall analysis will give an idea that how strong and
efficient JIT system could be for manufacturing firms.
