In
this article, the focus of researchers is on JIT that what kind of excellence
it can bring to manufacturing process. It is important to mention that
manufacturing process deals with various kinds of wastes, and this article
focuses on the fact that JIT manufacturing system is actually the one, which
looks to reduce or eliminate those manufacturing wastes of all kind. It is the
main principle and purpose adopted by JIT system, and this is what was done in
Toyota Japan by its initiator Taiichi Ohno. He was the first one really to
integrate JIT in Toyota’s production process to make it more efficient and
faster, and come up with desired results. The article has made a valid point by
asserting that manufacturing process needs to find ways to eliminate wastes,
because any kind of waste in the process can come up with various problems,
like products will take longer time to be produced, which eventually would make
it difficult to meet product demand and supply. The firms can certainly get
excellence in their manufacturing by integrating JIT system [4]
It has been a practice to look at
large manufacturing firms that what impact JIT system can have on their
manufacturing process. But it is important to understand that JIT system is
equally critical for small and medium sized manufacturing firms as well. They
also need to look at its features, which they can adopt to get benefits as much
as possible. The article has made a good initiative by taking small and medium
sized firms in view, because it is not always about large firms, rather medium
and small sized firms should also be considered, as they can be many in numbers
in an industry. The article explained that manufacturing process of medium and
small organizations can be slow and filled with many issues like manufacturing
wastes, which makes it hard for them to keep running smoothly. Moreover, small
as well as medium firms need to understand that what customers needs from them,
and to meet customers’ demands, they have to improve their manufacturing efficiency,
and otherwise it is hard to meet customers’ demands and requirements. The
article came up with insightful conclusion that all kind of wastes may not be
fully eliminated, but still substantial waste reduction is possible with the
help of JIT, which is a great result to achieve.
