Engineering in Robotics
In
this professional development exercise, I got to know about the importance of
robotics and electrical engineering in it. Additionally, different aspects of
robotics such as control movement and weight while some ethical issues were
also discussed. Under these, the most important role of electrical engineering
was detailed.
Robots
have been playing an important role in assisting humans ever since their
advent. They have helped humans in exploring deep oceans and space.
Furthermore, it has expanded and reached education, manufacturing, food
preparation, farming, and even healthcare. Actually, robotics is a wide area
that combines computer science, mechanical engineering, and electrical
engineering. In this area, power electronics, automated decision making,
control systems, and embedded programming are involved. These are the elements
that have to work together to make the robot act, think, and sense.
Deeper
into the exercise, I got to know that an electrical engineer has to control
various aspects of the robot such as circuit designing according to the
calculations, mass of the robot, force of the movement, and torque. All these
elements were discussed which gave me the knowledge about the importance of
electrical engineering in the field of robotics. Once this little piece of
information was conveyed, I was taken to the practical model on which I had to
test some values for the arm-movement while I also examined a faulty robot
which was unable to function properly.
Through
the examination of errors that a fallacious robot was exhibiting, I was told
about the ethical risks which are involved with robots. Mainly, I got to know
that with the use of robots, there is a risk to the patients in the healthcare
sector. Since robots can have defects at any particular time, there is a risk
that inefficient results will be produced and there is also a risk concerning
the exposure of confidential information.
By
participating in this exercise, I got to know about the fact that electrical
engineering is very important in the field of robotics and performance of
robots depends critically on the engineers. Robots can make various processes
very convenient for people and ethical risks can be further decreases by
efficient study with the contribution of engineers in the field of robotics. With
proper engineering techniques, reliable robotic technology can be developed for
assisting public.
