Online Survey Method and
Sampling
In this survey, the selected
questionnaire method is self completion questionnaire, where a survey
questionnaire is provided to the respondent so that he/she may complete it and return
back. As this survey is online, so questionnaire type used is called computer
assisted self interviewing. It is a sample survey, where the data is being
collected from a sample of a population.
The
chosen sample is related to those boxers, who are amateur. Keeping this fact in
view, I am using Purposive sampling for this online survey. It is a kind of sampling,
where researcher determines that which kind of samples will be chosen from a
population to participate in the research study. So, purposive sampling was
used for this online survey, and questionnaire was based on sample survey
method. (Maeo, 2018)
The purposive sampling along with
sample survey was used for the questionnaire for online due to various reasons.
The most important reason was that here I am not generalizing any research
findings for the whole or general population. If whole population would have
been chosen, then census survey and relevant sampling would have been used. The
purposive sampling was chosen, because I wanted to inquire the opinion of a
group from whole population.
The selected group is based on
amateur boxers, and the purpose is to know about their precautions against
unintentional doping while using health supplements. If group from the population
would not been specified then I could have used simple random sampling. It
shows that purpose sampling was used with sample survey method to specify the
research to group of amateur boxers only. (Smartsurvey.co.uk, 2018)
There are various advantages & disadvantages
of purposive sampling. The first great thing about purposive sampling is that it
is time effective as well as cost effective method. When limited numbers of
respondents with a specific group are being studies, then it is the best
sampling method. The purposive sampling is targeted at small number of
respondents, so burden for the researcher is less to find out results. However,
purposive sampling method has the disadvantage that its results cannot be generalized
of whole population because only a group can be taken in such method.
It
may also include the bias of the researchers as well. The accuracy cannot be measured
by this kind of sampling method. It is a fact that qualitative research can have
bias from the researcher, but I would like to avoid any bias by making sure
that results are reviewed by the participants, and findings will also be
reviewed with peers. Such practices will allow me to eliminate any kind of bias
in finalizing the survey findings for amateur boxers. (Usability.gov, 2018)
