The
company under consideration is the much hyped multinational technology company
that is Apple Inc. it is an American company that excels in designing,
developing and selling electronics, computer software and online services. Company
has worked on many successful projects including the famous IPhone smartphones,
Ipad tablet computer, the Mac computer, Apple smart watch, the IPod, Apple TV,
Homepod speakers, MacOS and iOS operating system, iTunes, iCloud, Apple music,
Mac App Store, iOs App store, safari web browser, iLife, iWork etc. the company’s
operations are smoothly managed by high standards set by stakeholders code of
conducts. [1]
It
increases their competitive advantage. The company empowers its employees by providing
them with special education and training to keep them well informed. Company encourages
workers for exploring new set of opportunities. Workers are fairly treated and
their rights are recognized. Working hours are reduced for convenience. The health
and safety of employees is put first. They go through an eighteen month course
of Environment Health Safety course (EHS) to learn skills of handling and
maintaining manufacturing systems. Apple is very careful about the
environmental impacts of its operations and projects so they make sure
suppliers reduce carbon or gas emissions.
They
regularly change their regulating systems and use renewable energy sources in
production. Apple rums its operations and projects on 100 percent renewable energy
now. Apple facilities including Apple parks and data centers throughout the
globe use green energy. In 2017it was about 96 percent but this year it flanked
up to 100 percent. Apple is making its suppliers and manufacturers to use
renewable resources as well. From using 16 percent renewable resources eight
years back, now apple uses 100 percent of renewable green energy and has
reduced the CO2 emissions by 58 percent. [2]
Apple
followed a Greenpeace protest after which it shifted to the use of 100 percent
renewable energy and ending use of coal in April 17, 2012. By 2013 almost 75
percent of power for company came for renewable clean sources. Climate counts
gave apple a score of 52 out of 100 for directing consumers towards use of
green energy in 2010. By 2015 apple kept trying to improve its environmental
practices and evaluated the green internet state. The commitment showed by
apple for providing renewable energy sources and manufacturing set a high
standard and helped to build sustainable green internet space.
By
2016, 100 percent of operations of renewable energy were run in U.S. numerous
solar and wind farms are built by Apple Inc. apple parks were made where fields
of solar panels were flanked in data centers. Apple signed power purchase
agreements in Brazil, Israel, India, Mexico and turkey to fulfill 4 percent
requirement of renewable energy resources in these areas. Some renewable energy
projects of Apple include Apple Park, Cupertino headquarter of apple that is
the biggest LEED platinum certified office in North America that provides 100
percent renewable energy to about 17 megawatt onsite rooftop solar installation
and 4 megawatts of biogas fuel cells that controls battery storage microgrid. [3]
In
six provinces of China wind and solar projects providing 485 megawatts of
energy are setup for upstream manufacturing emissions. Apple is planning to build
a 400,000 square foot center in Waukee to produce renewable energy every day. Another
200 megawatt power agreement is made in Oregon that will be completed in 2019. In
Nevada apple developed four projects providing 320 megawatts of solar energy. Apple
is partnering in Japan for installation of 18,000 megawatt worth producing
solar panel system for clean energy being provided to 3000 houses. 800rooftop
solar panels are built in Singapore. 244 million kilowatts per hour of
renewable energy is used in North Carolina.
Apple
Inc. is the first electronic company that eliminated the use of harmful gases,
carbons and PVC polyvinyl chloride to upgrade its product line with environment
preserving. Apple is a very competitive firm it allowed its consumers to use
products that are environment friendly as well as renewable resources by
helping them make informed purchasing decisions. All apple products now have a
gold status in the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT).
There
are four tools used in project management. For planning and operations a Gantt
chart, a logic network, a Product Breakdown Structure and a work breakdown
structure shall be used. A Gantt chart is like a bar chart which tracks
activities across time. It tracks interdependencies and time between tasks. It
is a standard for industry to show phases, tasks and resources used in a
project. A logic network shows a series of activities over a time period for
any project to precede another activity. It helps to reveal valuable
information. Product breakdown structure is a hierarchical and exhaustive
structure that makes any project deliverable and engaged. The work breakdown
structure delivers hierarchical decomposition of deliverables; it breaks them
into manageable packages regarding schedule and costing for project operating. [4]
These
tools help an organization to be more productive in managing operations. To
increase productivity the revenue per square foot and product units per time to
achieve milestones. Apple is use in unethical business processes like customer
service issues or use of litigation, the company encourages workers for
exploring new set of opportunities. Workers are fairly treated and their rights
are recognized. Working hours are reduced for convenience. Apple contributes in
charitable causes and fundraisers to support against tragedy or disaster. Apple
has a nice and supportive employee retaining environments that it should
continue for achieving more success. The company empowers its employees by
giving them special education and training they explore new set of
opportunities.
w
Apple is exceptionally watchful about the ecological effects of its tasks and
undertakings so they ensure providers lessen carbon or gas emanations. They
consistently change their managing frameworks and utilize sustainable power
sources underway. Apple rums its activities and tasks on 100 percent
sustainable power source now. Apple is an exceptionally focused firm it enabled
its customers to utilize items that are condition benevolent and in addition
inexhaustible assets by helping them settle on educated acquiring choices.
Recommendations
of Operations and Project Management
The present
work provides suggestions and recommendations for the future strategy and
choices of company. The apple should keep the implementation of hybrid strategy
that is related to the cost leadership strategy and contains outsourcing
strategy for the promotion of economics and sales. The customer focused
services should be considered for the advertisement strategy and expansion of
market shares. The new competencies should be considered for the acceleration
of self-enhancement and series of products in the market.
