It is important to understand that leadership is crucial for
any organization to meet its objectives and be a successful one in its market
or industry. Without a proper, dedicated, skilled and experienced leadership,
an organization cannot excel. The leadership issues in any organization can
lead to various problems, and those problems vary according to organizations. It
is also important to understand that leaderships can have different mindsets,
and each mindset has its own implications. Different leadership styles come
with different positive or negative outcomes. The leadership mindset and
working style is critical for an organization in so many ways. The organizational
performance is heavily dependent on its leadership. Moreover, how employees
will perform, it is also dependent on the leadership and its mindset. If a
leader has a positive mindset, which allows encouraging employees, trust them
and give value to their feedback; such organization will more likely excel at a
rapid pace than many others. If an organization wants long term success, then
they need to overcome leadership challenges, and move in the right direction.
Question: 1
Write about your organization and the 7 mindsets at all as
the organization and specific each section 7 mindsets in the organization and
which theory of mindsets it can fit in the organization.
My organization is a collage in Oman; concerning the 7
mindset my organization is likely to adopt some of the mindsets out of 7
mindsets. In my organization “Everything is Possible” is a kind of mindset that
taught to students and it is also the motto of the organization that knowledge
and hard work can make everything possible for a person. The passion first
mindset allows the organization to pursue the real passion of a person because
it is obvious that the passion is something that can makes the person fall in
love with the work he is doing. The “we are connected “is the mindset that make
the person understand the value of other people around him and connect the
people also increase the sense of belonging of the person [1].
The “attitude of gratitude” is something that promotes a
positive attitude in a person and mends his ways towards the success in the
classroom it is very important for the teachers to teach the student to show
gratitude towards what they have and receive more in their lives. The “live to
give” is the mindset that must be promoted in children to make them understand
that giving is actually receiving because what you give is directly proportional
to what you will receive. It is very important mindset that teaches the children
that if they something in their lives they start with giving it to others.
In the administration and finance; there is the focus on the
Live to Give mindset as it teaches that how to focus on the financial security.
It is analyzed that Time is now mindset is focused by the finance department.
Moreover, IT department believes on the situations that everything is possible
it expect greatness, it also has the process of making dreams or the department
believes on the dream and positive vision. The student affairs department
focuses on the passion first mindset as there is the focus on the unique genius
and sharing of the dreams authentic goals. It is analyzed that We Are Connected
mindset is focused by the resources department because the department more
believes to embrace diversity. This department also follows the 100%
Accountable mindset as well as the Attitude of Gratitude mindset.
Write how the leadership styles affect employees and the
performance in the organization (example: the section of administration and
finance in reading level of the 7 mindsets leadership that affect the employees
and performance………..) each section which leadership and the effects)
Performance of the employees directly depends upon the behavior and attitude of
the employees. Leadership not only causes to bring changes in the behavior of
the employees in the desirekkd manner but also motivates them towards
improvement in the performance.
According to a research paper written by the Hao and
Yazdanifard in 2015, leadership is a power through which one can cause another
person to bring changes in his attitude and behavior. leadership has a key role
in change management. in fact leadership brings changes in the organization,
its processes and operations, and culture. basically, change management relates
to two area as the change in the behavior of individual employee and change in
the overall culture and environment of the organization [2]. For instance, the
organization leaders can encourage the system of communication and
collaboration among the employees that can bring efficiency in the overall organizational
performance and the individual performances of the employees [3].
Seven mind set could help the department to grow as if the
departments has these mindsets then there could be effectiveness. Admin &
Finance section, student Affairs section, IT section and Resources section need
to focus on the seven mind set process as in this way, the style of the
leadership that an organization adopts has a deep impact on the overall
performance and productivity of the employees. It is very important for the
leaders to be the role model for all of the employees and help them if they
need any help. There are many of the leadership styles that can be adopted by
the organization to develop good employee’s relationship with the
organizational goals. The major attribute of an effective leader is that he is
likely to guide the employees towards the organizational goals and also give
them a direct to achieve their maximum goals [4].
The departments of colleges or departments could grow
through following mindsets. The leaders must have a good relationship with the
employees and all help them to overall all of the issues they are having in the
work [5]. In order to reach
orange mindset, seven mind set can help the departments a good and effective
leadership style is something that not only influences the organizational
workplace but also improves the work performance of the employees. [6]
How is the organization different into other organization
same matters and in what your organization is different from them (we can
compare with Sultana Qaboos university QUS) we can say we are different in our
graduate they will get a work in the ministry of health in very short time and
in them. example
In accordance with the comparative analysis findings, there
are some areas where Oman College is showing better performance while in some
areas Sultana Qaboos Uninvesting is performing. Even both institutes are
working in the same area and in same fields as health sciences but still; there
are differences in both institutes. For instance, the discipline system of the
Oman College is better than Sultana Qaboos University. Oman College has strong
assets of expert and highly qualified teaching staff who are trying to
facilitate the students in all manners to enable the students to become market
leaders (in medical, healthcare fields and other related areas) in the future [7].
While in the field of research the students and teachers of
the Sultan Qaboos University are performing well as in the field of research
they had cover the area and topics related to the Behavioral medicine, child
health, genetics, human Clinical Anatomy, Allied Health science, Emergency
Medicine, Family Medicine and Public Health, Anesthesia and Intensive care and
Oral health. However, there research articles and publications are also
available on the topics of modern approaches and technologies in the medical
and health sciences field as Pharmacology and Clinical pharmacy, Ophthalmology,
Microbiology and Immunology, radiology and molecular imaging. Because of such
factors, they are given more opportunities in the market for research.
Advantage related to future career and job opportunity also matter here in
creating the difference [8]. Graduates are given
more opportunities in order to get jobs and work in the ministry of health in a
relatively short time as compared to the competitors. Even the market and areas
of studies covered by the Sultan Qaboos University are more than the Oman
College [9].
Describe these different is it positive or negative and is
it better for your organization
Summering the above discussion about the difference in the
Sultan Qaboos University and Oman College we can conclude that difference are
not very positive even the Oman College has the advantage in some areas but
still Sultana Qaboos University is many times better than the Oman College in
the areas of research and future career-related opportunities. The difference
can be made positive through reconsidering the policies and regulations
developed and adopted in the college. Rather than following current policies
and strategies set by the corporate level management, Oman College can become
the market leader by adopting the modern approaches and strategies implemented
in the Sultan Qaboos University and other best universities of the world [10].
The negative
difference can cause our organization to face issues in the targeted market. As
both institutes are working in the same filed and in the same targeted market
(Oman) therefore both has great competition. [8] Negative difference
reduces the chances of sustainability and negatively influence the competitive
position in the market, therefore, we cannot elaborate that negative difference
is better for the organization. In fact, negative differences are alarming
situations that need to respond immediately before facing issues in the
operational market. Business and image of the institute can get effects because
of such differences [11].
Question: 2
How you are going to improve your organization like take the
section of admin from level red color to orange 7 mindsets.
To bring improvement in the organization planning can be
made about the changes through getting support from the course material and
readings about the "what is enlightenment?" and "7
mindsets". Improvement can be achieved by enabling the organization like
the section of admin to reach the orange from red level color. Red color level
basically emphasis on the raw-self, individualism, and egocentric self that are
not appropriate for the organizations in the modern age when we desire from the
employees to work together to achieve mutual goals.
In the successful organizations common and mutually set
goals are given more preferences as compared to the individual goals of achievement.
There to bring team spirit in the employees and to reach the orange level color
there is a need to reduce the concept of individualism and egocentric self from
the whole section/organization. Taking the example of admin section, employees
working in the admin section of the college need to work together as a team.
Even while performing their own duties they need to coordinate with other staff
members. However, between red and
orange, there is a blue color. The blue color is concerned with the memes
starting from 5000 years ago [12]. The blue level is
concerned with searching the transcendent purpose. The blue color is about the
power and single authority in the organizations.
Red level people were known as the gang-like and war-like
people. While in the blue level employees will be taught to sacrifice their
individual goals and objectives for the accomplishment of the mutual and common
goals shared by the college. Here the concepts of Blue are interrelated with
the mindset of the successful people. As in the 7 mindsets, "we have
connected" emphasis on embracing diversity and collaborating with other to
maximize performance. the mindset of "we are connected" as the name
suggests goes against the concept of individualism and egocentric self as in
accordance with this mindset people do wrong when they create walls around them
and separate them from the community and other people on the basis of their
wrong beliefs and false perceptions [1].
The blue level is basically a training and support level for
the orange level. Through making changes in the behavior of the employees we
can reach the blue and then orange level thus the whole organization and the
section of admin will get improvement. even there is a green color level also
after the orange color but orange is considered as improved level as it is
about advancement and improvement. In the orange level organizations earned the
desired disciplines and changes in the employee’s behavior that cause to
transfer the whole culture of the organization in the positive culture.
How you’re different to your competitor and in which things
you are different from them
Oman College is different from the other competitors of the
same field in a number of ways. For instance, the vision and mission set for
Oman College are different from the competitors. Oman College is paying more
attention to the change and improvement to align their services with the
current and future requirements of the society as compared to the other
competitors of the college. Administration and academic performances also
create differentiation for the Oman College in the market. While the way of
teaching and rank in the overall colleges of Oman are also important
differences. On the other hand, the importance is given to the research and
co-curricular activities like seminars, educational programs, and conferences
also create a difference. Somehow, the technology adopted at the college as AV
aids, projects, and computer systems are also major differences. And most
importantly how the college administration is working on the improvement
process of whole organizational functions and teaching patterns are the main
factors that create the difference between Oman College and its competitors.
Up to how long these different make your organization in a
positive or negative position
The differences between the Oman College and the competitor
institutes as College and universities determine the positive or negative
position for the organization in the market. In accordance with the analysis
undertaken earlier, we can conclude that most of the differences are giving the
opportunity to the Oman College to get a positive position in comparison with
their competitors. Positive position can help out the Oman College to create
competitive advantage and remain sustainable in the highly competitive market.
However, the differences are long lasting but not forever. Other colleges of
Oman are also making improvement in their services and facilities. Therefore to
create differences that stay for a long time and benefit the organization in
various ways Oman College need to make the improvement on a continuous basis.
they can use mindset reading in bringing improvement in the educational system
of the college as developing the mindset of
“attitude and gratitude”, “100% accountable” and “we are connected” [13] organization can
develop the mindset of the successful people in their students. [14]
Question: 3
What is the change happened in your organization and are
still happen and what is the change that the other company do to continue that
change
Several changes have happened in Oman College. In fact, research
conducted by the Donkers in 2016, we are living in a diverse world that is
changing with the time. Climate change and the dynamic changes in the society
are causing to make changes in the global world. In the world, almost all
countries and area are adopting changes. Similarly, the process of change is
not static in the Oman College. Leadership and management of the Oman College
are making changes in the organizational structure of the college to increase
the effectiveness and efficiency of the organization. The major change occurred
in the Oman College of health sciences during the last few years is related to
the duration of the diploma program. The ministry of the health in Oman decided
in 2014 to make the diploma program a baccalaureate degree program having 5-year
duration rather than the 3 years duration previously set for the diploma
program. A research study conducted to
understand the efforts and perception of the various college of the Oman
(working in the medical and health science field) elaborate that most of the
colleges in Oman are uncertain regarding change management. In response to
their negative behavior toward the change, they explained that colleges and
organizations are not going to bring about changes in the organization because
of the unclear vision and poor planning of the leaders towards the future. While
research also illustrated a big change made in the Oman College of health
sciences by the Health ministry, as they made the announcement for reform and
transitional plan that all educational institutes of the Ministry of Health
will be transformed to the Oman College of health science. This the biggest
change made in the Oman College of health sciences that also influenced the
other colleges and educational.
Up to how long we can say our organization is in the front
of these changes or it is going like the other organization in the changes and
give some examples like (SQU) (please read the instruction
In the research, there is evidence of the change in the
environment, educational system, managerial system, and the academic-related
programs. The changes are not related to a limited duration of time. In fact,
the changes are taken with the vision to stay as long as required for the
successful life and operations of the Oman College of health sciences. The
organization is basically in front of such changes from last 4 years [8]. The major decisions
of changes and improvement in the functions of the Oman College were made in
2014 by the college administration and the ministry of health in Oman.
In comparison to the other competitors and educational
institutes offering the courses of health sciences as Sultan Qaboos University
the changes implemented in the Oman College are more than the other institutes.
One major reason behind this difference is the behavior of the institutes
towards adopting the change in the organization as research has proved that
more of the organizations and educational institutes are not adopting changes because
of several internal issues of the organizations. Similarly, there is very few
evidence available about the changes made in the Sultan Qaboos University. In
fact, most of their services and programs offered are the same that they
offered at the time of establishment.
However, Sultan Qaboos University follows the rules and
regulations by the government therefore whenever the government policies
encourage the changes in the educational system Sultan Qaboos University also
implement that change immediately. A fine example of the change in the training
system used in the Sultan Qaboos University is the agreement of training signed
by the Daewoo and Sultan Qaboos University. In the year of 2012, they decided
that teaching only the theoretical subjects is not enough for the students,
therefore, they made changes in their academic calendars and offered summer
training programs for the very first time in their university for the
information about Qaboos university [9].
Question: 4
Type three problems your organization that facing to be the
success like (shortage in the financial budget and shortage in the employees
and training)
Problems and issues in the organization cause to affect the
overall performance of the organization. In the highly competitive market where
a number of substitute and alternatives are available to the customer problems
and issues quite unaffordable. management of the organizations should be highly
capable to identify the right problems and issues behind the poor performance
of the organization and should plan new strategies to eradicate such
conflicting issues and problems from the organization to bring the organization
as one of the best organization working in that field. In Oman College there
are some problems and issues that are working as a barrier in the way of
organization that leads to success. Here the problems are discussed below with
a brief explanation:
Financial Resources
Educational organizations need financing in different ways
in order to meet its expense and remain functional in society. Financial
resources can be used from the capital investment of the owners (if
non-government institute), by shareholders investment (if shares are offered in
the open market), retained earnings (previous year saving from the net income)
and the governmental funds. Oman College
is unable to collect enough required amount and funds from these sources,
therefore, they face a lack of financial resources as the institute is free and
there is no fees. It is a government college. However, the college get finance
through the government through ministry of health issues while starting up new
projects and covering the monthly expense.
Shortage in teacher and staff
Teachers and staff are the also considered as tangible
assets in the educational organization as they are responsible for the
operations (as teaching various subjects and courses) In the Oman college
teachers and the staff is not sufficient. Therefore other staff members and teachers
are taking extra workload to fulfill the needs of the institutes. Because of
the unavailability of the teachers for specialization subjects students are
facing problems. Thus the shortage of teachers and staff are causing the double
problem for the college as extra work load on other employees is negatively
influencing their performance and teaching by the un-specialized teachers in
the relevant field is causing to affect the learning of the students.
3) Training
Training of the employees including managerial and
administrative staff, admin and finance department workers, and teachers is
really important. Oman College is also facing problem related to lack of
training and development sessions in the Oman College. Lack of training opportunity is a big issue
but not impossible to sort out. Administration and management of the Oman
College should offer training and development courses to the teachers and staff
members of the college to help them up-grade their knowledge and learn new
skills.
4) The space of the building not enough
Space of the Oman College is not sufficient for the students
and courses offered in the college.
College is facing problem is managing their courses and students in the
building. There are also challenges related to the space for administration
staff area.
What we
should do to make our organization continuous improvement because of the
problems in growth.
Oman College can ensure continuous improvement by using
various techniques and approaches available for ensuring continuous improvement
in the organizations that are working in the service business. Kaizen, Total
quality management, lean management, and six sigma are important approaches for
improving the performance of the organizations. Oman College can also follow
some of these approaches for continuous improvement in their organization.
While to address the problem related to the financial
resources insufficiency organization can request the government to provide more
funds. However, through the training session, which we can learn in class from
7am to 2 pm they can also bring efficiency in the operations and functions as
they can be taught their employees and workers about the ways to save resources
of the organization. Managing expense will definitely support the organization to
save some earning for other important projects of the college. Thus through
making changes and working for the improvement in the organization, they can
ensure the growth of the organization towards success.
Conclusion on of Leadership in Oman College
It can be
concluded that different leadership mindsets can be useful in different
situations, but every mindset need to work well with the objectives of an
organization. If 7 mindsets are integrated with positive frame of mind, then outcomes
will certainly be positive as well. Moreover, there can be few other issues, which
need attention of the organization like financial issues, shortage of employees
as well as training issues. When these issues are handled with proper strategy,
and change is integrated well, the organization can certainly earn long term
success in the future.
