This case study is about the word
processing support in a Government agency. In this case study I am as the in
charge of a four person team that is working in this Government agency. Their
main task is to provide word processing and graphic support to the other 40
member s of the agency but then my staff members are unable to provide complete
work on time. Then after the new laws
passed by the congress in which these 40 members has to address new issues in
their report so because of this there is more work burden on these four
members. The names of these four members are Jack, Dianne, Brenda and Pat (-McDavid,
2010).
Problem statement of the concepts of the
Balanced Score Card
The main problem in this case study is that work load has been increased
up to 50%. Due to this workload these staff members are angry and also in huge
pressure. This is because the new federal laws have been passed by the congress
so as a result of this all the 40 members in the agency have to address
different new issues in their reports (Verhoest, Thiel,
Bouckaert, & Lægreid, 2011).
Cause
of the problem of the concepts of the Balanced Score Card
The main cause of the problem is the new federal laws that have been
passed by the congress due to this all problems have been raised. Also in the
agency there are only four members that are handling all the workload of forty
members of the agency. There are very low
quality and old word processing units in the agency (Condrey, 2010).
Design criteria of the concepts of the
Balanced Score Card
There are four members in the working agency and all of them need some relaxation
in their work. I am as the manager on these four members so I have to design
suitable criteria for them to solve this issue in the working agency.
Potential solutions of the concepts of the Balanced Score Card
There are some potential solutions for solving this issue in the working
agency. The first solution has been given by the head of the agency and this
solution was the amount of $6000 so that in this amount I can manage a new word
processing unit for my staff. In the word processing unit there is latest PC, a
laser printer and graphics packages so that through the use of this new unit my
staff members are able to perform more effectively. There is another solution
of this problem is that hire another two persons for handling the work load in
the agency but there is one problem.
The problem is that there is one year freeze in government spending so
this means that you are unable to hire anybody within the time limit of six
months so I have to go with the first solution of the problem that is a new
word processing unit for my staff members. Then the one problem raised and that
is, who is the one person that is most deserving for this word processing unit
and this will be discussed in the recommended solution of this issue.
Recommend solution of the concepts of the
Balanced Score Card
There are four members in the working agency and their names are Jack,
Dianne, Brenda and Pat. All these four members are well capable of doing their
work.
In the working agency Jack is
the most senior member from all of them and he has a great working experience
and that is about 14 years. Jack is also angry on the selection of the staff
supervisor position. This is because I and jack both were co workers in the past
and then I was the one that was selected for this position. The next member is the 20 year old Dianne, she
is a young talent and she is able to complete any kind of report on time but
the main problem is that she is slow.
This is because the word
processing unit on which she is working is the oldest and slowest working unit
in the agency. After this the next worker is Brenda and she is one of the most
hardworking workers in the agency. This is because she has a lot of overtimes
and also highest working hours in this agency. In the last there is Pat, she
has been in this agency for about 4 years and she is one of the most genius
people in the working agency. She has a special word processing unit because
she has to complete major task in this agency but she always late to complete
these reports.
The best solution is that give Dianne a new word processing unit. This
is because she is young so she has a lot of power and courage to solve any kind
of issue in the working agency. If this latest computer and word processing
unit has been given to her so that she can easily make reports and meet the
requirements of the agency.
