Whenever there is a mix
and match of many types of organizations given in a sector it naturally gives
competition to one and another. The main reason is that the portfolio for
choice for the consumer increases. In the health sector the situation is same.
The non-profit organizations are giving tough time to the profit making firms. However
if there is no balance of non-profit and for-profit firms there will be less
competition regarding price. More profit firms will be able to maintain
excessive pricing despite being large in number because they are in for profits
and business. The question poses a very complex scenario for the profit-making
organizations as it can indicate that their prices would have to be lowered.
The market now is composed of non-profit health organizations, which help out
those who cannot afford what people call a “regular doctor." These
organizations only race with a professional organization in how many patients
they see and not in price. Those with
insurance generally opt for charitable organizations since they may be better
suitable to treat a patient. If the market were only for-profit organizations,
these organizations would be more competitive for the reason that my prices
would be the most excellent compared to the delivery or someone else delivering
the same quality at a lesser price.
See the “Sun Health Case
Study” on page 387 of the text. Did the
EHR seem to be well aligned with Sun Health’s overall strategic plan? Explain your rationale.Since the healthcare
industry is progressing, the implementation of HIT and other technologies will
not be sufficient alone. The healthcare systems and hospitals have to
constantly optimize the IT health to take advantage of the benefits and create
the top results for patients. By using governance board to supervise the IT
projects and analyze their alignment with overall business strategies has
helped Sun Health and could prove as a useful guide for other hospitals. Not
only this, but the IT systems add to the value of operations of the hospital
and maintain the record and data of patients with ease. The information can be
used to diagnose the patient in future and also see health trends in the area.
Sun Health’s strategic plan is based on its core values and mission to improve
the healthcare facilities at an affordable price. They have been using the
means of IT for it to stand out and at least be par the market standards. The
Electronic Health record (EHR) system falls within the strategic goals and will
aid the organization to achieve its goal. It is of importance to maintain the
data of patient and treat it fairly in order to provide better services and
accessibility to the healthcare officers. By use of EHR, Sun Health can focus
on providing better services and see the health trends to be better equipped
for different scenarios in the future.
