The glass is a non-crystalline amorphous solid, it is mostly
transparent. The glass is mainly made of the chemical silica (SiO2). According
to the archaeologists, the history of glass is about 3600 years old in
Mesopotamia. One of the oldest clues of glass are found in India in 1730 BC,
china 475 BC to 221 BC and in Romans during the first century. The glass is
typically made from liquid sand, the ordinary sand that is made of silica oxide
is melted at very high temperature 1700 degree until it turn in to liquid after
that glass is made from it (Hill, 2016). In the present time,
the usage of glass is widespread in technological, decorative, crockery, art
work, construction fields.
There are a lot of types of glasses, for example float
glass, toughened glass, tinted glass, obscured glass, mirrored glass, coated glass,
painted glass etc. All of the types of
glass can use for different material in making different material. The floating glass is typically used in construction
material such as making the building glasses. Toughened glass is typically use
in the kitchen and bathroom; this glass can also improve the overall safety and
security.
The tinted glass is
used for climate control and reduces the radiation from the solar energy, this
glass is mostly used in the windows of house to protect the inside environment
from UV rays. The obscured glass is normally used in commercial and domestic because
of the privacy purposes because it not allow to see through it and only let the
light to travel across it. Mirrored glass is mainly uses to see the reflection,
it also used for decorative purposes and in the buildings to create a larger
space illusion of place.
Coated glass is uses in interior designing and for the
aesthetical purposes. In the painted glasses the wire mesh in added into the
glass by using different colors in it that can many can place more colorful (Cmog.org, 2011).
Summing up the discussion it can be said that in the present
time the use of the glass in widespread in different areas. The origin of glass
is very old and people have been using the glass since very long. There are many of the advanced forms of glass
that can be used for different purposes. More uses of glass currently are for
the constructional and decorative purposes.
